Nixon would have not been taken down by the state if not for Kissinger.

The CIA and the Pentagon were very unhappy that Kissinger and Nixon were making their own decisions and didn't care if other opinions were listened to. The trip to China was a big deal in that regard.

This article hits on that. Apparently, india and Pakistan was also a big deal and Nixon moved a carrier fleet to the bay of Bengal without asking for and telling joint chiefs.

This article is full of new Information from newly declassified documents.

I know this comment will get lost, but I now have about 50 years of occasional dealings with the news media.

I have noticed that literally every time I have had personal knowledge of some news story, the news story that is reported has been wrong. Every now and then I will talk to somebody who has personal knowledge of a new story and they will say that it was wrong. I've pointed it out to my children when there is occasionally some story that they have personal knowledge of.

And then I say, what does that tell you about the rest of the stories that you are reading?

Yep. Local news is at least as bad as national as well. Local news is a complete joke. I know I got interviewed on an issue a few years back where I was representing a group where we were voicing our concerns about something happening in our neighborhood. 95% of the people there had similar concerns and the local officials there were very uncomfortable. I watch the news segment and they basically portrayed it as a group of citizens super excited about what the government was doing for us and mainly focused on the interviews with the local officials and did an incredible job of slicing up my 10 minute interview to take a few seconds of content to make it look like our group which was opposing it was actually in favor of it.

News is propaganda far more than it is news imo, I am very jaded about it.

If you have not read G. Gordon Liddy's autobiography, "Will", it is definitely worth the time. I read it in the late '70s when it was first published, and haven't done a reread in many years, so a lot of it has been forgotten, but he talks about everything up to publishing.

One thing that stood out was that he was willing to sacrifice himself via a hit to take the entire fall for the Watergate break-in.

In reference to Hoover, Liddy tells a story about Hoover being introduced to a class of new FBI trainees, as was usual, and afterwards making the comment that there were a lot of "pinheads" in there. The next day, while class was going on, staffers went through the locker room and checked all of the trainees' hat sizes. The three with the smallest hats were washed out, regardless of how well they were doing in the class.

I met Liddy and he was much more of a thinker than the way the press portrayed him. Really interesting guy.

There's a name for how many people respond to this: Gell-Mann Amnesia. Created by author Michael Crichton, named after physicist Murry Gell-Mann.

There's a story about Liddy from those days. Nixon, Halderman, Ehrlichman and Liddy in the Oval and watching TV news. Newscaster (probably Rather) was s*** talking about Nixon and Nixon grumbled, "Wish someone would kill that guy." Liddy got up and left the room. Nixon sends Halderman after Liddy to stop him.

True? No idea but Liddy was crazy enough to do it.

A great telling of Liddy's life. VERY entertaining.

Jump to about 4:30 to bypass the opening small talk.

Was listening to Joe Rogan the other day, and via an interview that he conducted with Tucker Carlson, it comes out that the FBI and CIA were both behind the process of setting him up. Bob Woodward goes from being a Navy Intelligence Officer to a cub reporter and gets the story of a lifetime handed to him.

It was his FIRST story. Prior Naval Intelligence, conveniently goes into journalism, and get handed this on a silver platter? None of it adds up except the obvious

The book, Weird Scenes Inside the Canyon, details some interesting connections. The whole Hollywood scene in the 60's and 70's was an intelligence operation. From LSD to many famous band members having connections to intelligence agencies.

This reminded me of another anecdote from Will. It was when the U.S.-Mexico border was closed in 1969, ostensibly to deter the marijuana trade into the country. There were deeper issues involved. The press covered the shutdown and kept saying it was a complete failure due to the amount of traffic that was stuck on the Mexican side of the border. In the White House, they all laughed at how wrong the reports were, because the result was exactly what Nixon wanted.

Here's a Wiki link to the operation, with a quote from Liddy

There may have been deep state involvement in those assassinations, but let's not forget what Joe Kennedy Sr. was involved in and how he used his influence to get his sons into power. That was a very dark time in American history, and I am not convinced we are not seeing similar forces at work in America today.
