With every single Democrat except one voting against it.

The most recent Fox poll shows this as an 85/15 issue in this country, with 85 pct in favor of a photo ID requirement to vote.

Hell, 71% of DEMOCRATS are in favor of it.

What are the Democrats thinking?

They are going to wear this one around their neck come November

Irrelevant unless the Senate goes nuclear which will not happen. Typical feel good politician talking points to pretend they're working for what the people want

Especially if they block it in the senate. The harder they fight against it, the more clear it becomes that they are scared of trying to block avenues of fraud. Their drones will come out and call it racist, but anybody claiming in today's world that a black or brown person can't easily get an ID is the real racist.

The Republicans aren't blameless in this either. If they would have allowed morgue/autopsy photos to be counted as an accepted form of ID to vote, the Democrats would have gone along with the SAVE Act. What do you expect a party to do when you purposely try and disenfranchise one of their major voting blocks?? HELLO!!!! Smart move by the Republicans though. With the undead vote taken off the table nationally, this puts a lot more races in play.

Can't wait until Trump and every Republican drag Dems/Libs over the coals for fighting against Voter ID.

As someone above said it is an 85-15 Issue and the Dems/Libs are on the wrong side of it. If the Dems/Libs keep to their position this issue alone will probably assure that the Repubs keep the House.

Best they can do is try to weaken it with amendments then voting it through and hoping the Loyal Dem/Lib voters forget about it by the Fall.

I disagree with this slightly. The house needs to pass meaningful legislation, that's their job. Pressure should be on the Senate to get their job done as well. Sitting around doing nothing but slinging mud back and forth on social media is even more performative and useless

Supposedly the Republicans will force the Democrats to filibuster the old fashion way.

We'll see if they have the guts to do it.

If by some way they can get it passed, they're already down 1 vote as the Alaska hag has vowed to defeat it.
"If you will not fight for right when you can easily win without blood shed; if you will not fight when your victory is sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance of survival. There may even be a worse case. You may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves." - Sir Winston Churchill

Next few days will be very telling as to how our country is going to end up. If Senate just says "we can't get to 60" and does nothing, then we are doomed. It is mandatory to go nuclear. As soon as D's get power they'll do it. This feels like our last shot as we see how bat **** crazy the left has become. Massive cheating in the midterms and Trump will accomplish nothing in last two years of office if we do nothing. I'm leaning toward that considering the R house and senant have done absolutely nothing of importance over the first year. No DOGE codification, no election security, no Epstein folks being prosecuted... They've done nothing that was "mandated" in 2024. Scary times. We lose midterms I fear we're not far from R's never winning ever again. I'm going to have a drink with my pistol in my lap now....lol.

Even though its very popular with the electorate, I still give this about a 5% chance of ever passing into law, and that's incredibly sad. It should be a no-brainer.

McConnell, Murkowski, and Collins are all in ERIC states. They will never vote for it and I doubt Thune will even give it the time of day even if it looks like Fetterman will vote in favor or have JD break the tie.

This would absolutely rip the guts out of the Democrat party. They wouldn't win another majority for my entire life.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER!

Thune is already on record there are not enough R votes to force a standing filibuster, much less to nuke it and pass by simple majority vote.

This will be a messaging bill only for the R's, and sadly, I think it will fall off the radar screen with kitchen table issues like "affordability" and "health care" taking center stage instead.

You could argue the R's are doing much more for affordability than the Dems although I'm not sure the majority of voters would see that because they're not feeling it in their checkbook if you believe the ongoing consumer confidence surveys which are at/near multi-year lows.

On health care, the R's are again missing an opportunity to push through a market-based health care approach that would bring more freedom and eventually lower costs. They're stuck in neutral, just like the Save Act, and can't find their spine when they need it.

There are 49 co-signers in the Senate, with 4 hold outs (Thune being one, but that's a procedural position as much as anything - he's said he supports it).

Assume it gets to 50 and Vance and break a tie after the long standing filibuster session.

Thune is saying there are not enough R votes to force a standing filibuster. You need 50 (plus Vance) to force a rules change, and he's saying those votes are not there. That's a separate issue from how many cosponsors the bill has.

It's similar to when Sens. Sinema and Manchin refused to go along with other Dems to nuke the filibuster so they could pass an ambitious Dem agenda even though they agreed with the agenda. They simply could not agree to change the filibuster.

If the senate fails here, Trump should sue to try and get court orders to send Federal Observers under the Voting Rights Act to every county in Georgia, Arizona, Colorado, Michigan, and Pennsylvania.

He should try to get a court order on all counties in the nation by one very conservative Federal Judge, but should file in every state if he needs to.

This is the most assured, confirmed, legal, legal voter assured method we have at this point.

How can anyone that holds our voting system viable, not vote FOR this?

The politicians know full well what the actual voting population wants.

And they are going against it. I know why (it is sick) the DemocRAT politicians will go against it, even thought their voting supporters are overwhelmingly FOR it. It's obvious. But the Republican traitors? Really?

If this does not pass, it is all a voting SHAM and our elections are WORTHLESS.

Yeah, things that 80+% of Americans want and that will make elections more secure are pure whackadoodle stuff to dems like you aren't they? Because you know you can't win elections if they are actually free from fraud. Just say it. You are fine with fraudulent 3rd world style elections as long as it benefits your party. We all know that is what you believe, so just go ahead and own it.

"African-American" is an immigration status. Blacks here, and everywhere, can get IDs contrary to what the racists in the Dem party think.

This is not a one and done.

These votes will be called over and over again. At some point the Dems and their MeCowSkis and Corpsee Collins will line up with the Rs.

Believe Fetterman is also a yes even now.

Voter ID will be in place for Nov 2026.
