Why would he sue? He is the boss, why not just fix and fire as needed?

Donald Trump sues the IRS and Treasury for at least $10bn
https://finance.yahoo.com/news/donald-trump-sues-irs-treasury-012255473.html

Quote:

Donald Trump and his family have sued the Internal Revenue Service and the Treasury department for at least $10bn over the leak of tax returns, in a move that pits the US president against his own government.

The lawsuit brought by Trump, his two older sons, Donald Trump Jr and Eric, and the Trump Organization, stems from the disclosure of tax documents that former IRS contractor and Booz Allen Hamilton employee Charles Littlejohn leaked to the New York Times, ProPublica and other organisations in 2019 and 2020.
The suit claims the leak to "leftist media outlets" caused "reputational and financial harm, public embarrassment, unfairly tarnished their business reputations, portrayed them in a false light and negatively affected President Trump, and the other Plaintiffs' public standing", according to the complaint filed in Miami federal court on Thursday.

Quote:

The lawsuit marks a highly unusual move by a sitting US president to take legal action against arms of his own government.

The Trumps allege the IRS and Treasury department failed to establish proper safeguards to ensure the security and confidentiality of the tax returns of the US president and his family.
The Treasury and the IRS did not immediately respond to a request for comment about the suit.
The Treasury department earlier this week said it was cancelling its contracts with the consulting firm Booz Allen as punishment for the leaking of Trump's tax returns and the confidential filings of thousands of other wealthy individuals.

In January 2024 Littlejohn was sentenced to five years in prison for leaking Trump's tax documents and those of other wealthy individuals.

The sentencing judge called it "the biggest heist in IRS history".
The news website ProPublica published more than 50 stories based on the leaks, which shone a harsh spotlight on the tax strategies of billionaires from Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos to Warren Buffett and Michael Bloomberg.
As candidate and as president, Trump eschewed long-standing tradition by refusing to release his tax returns, which fuelled media speculation about his financial standing.
In 2020, the New York Times reported that in 2016, the year he was elected president, Trump paid $750 in federal income tax and that he had paid no income tax at all in 10 of the prior 15 years after he reported losses that exceeded his earnings.

There needs to be punishment for the employees that participated in the release of private information. The Govies couldn't care less if the taxpayers have to pay for their behavior.

Make the IRS, and the anti-American direct tax on income, relics of a corrupt and bureaucratic past.

Suing them might be right for POTUS.

But he is in a position to strike at the root of the problem and its often slimy and always incompetent enforcement tool.

After having dealt with them for over 35 years and been exposed to the arrogance, incompetence, the us against them attitude, I don't find them being part of our government, more anti-American taxpayer than anything.

You should be mad at the hacks on your side that used the government for partisan purposes against a private citizen and his family. But you'll double down and act like he's the bad guy and what y'all did to him was justified.

The ends do not justify the means.

The issue is they harmed him as a private citizen and individual so it is difficult to approach the problem from his position of authority without appearing to be biased in his own interests, even though objectively the issue of leaking private personal data against the law is a government problem in a government that reports to the president, no matter whose data it is. It does put him in the odd position of appearing to benefit personally in a financial sense from any damages he might be awarded if he appears to intervene in any way from his position of authority.

The guy that did it went to jail, his company has lost millions in business over it. That should be end of story. Yet somehow people genuinely believe that trump was harmed far in excess of his actual net worth and are willing to pay him using your own money.

That's usually the goal of most lawsuits.

Also, Trump is smart to do this now, that way he has time to make sure he gets the money before the next administration, which, thanks to history, is more likely to be a dem, gets rid of this, and he gets nothing.

This way, he'll get his money, even if nothing changes with those he's suing.

Although seeing as how the person who leaked things, maybe this will help end contractor jobs for these types of jobs and bring those jobs into the agency to help ensure greater security measures.

I'd rather see the 16th and 17th amendments repealed and the IRS disappear like a fart in the wind. At the same time eliminate all other unconstitutional federal agencies and then spread out the constitutional agencies that are left into areas that don't vote 96% Democrat.

Having most of our federal agencies stacked full of partisan leftists, working in an area with an extreme left federal judiciary, and hyper partisan leftist/Democrat jury pool gives Democrat politicians almost complete impunity to be as corrupt as they want to be. No matter what crime they commit if they are tried in DC and only need one juror to hang, how likely do you think a Democrat is going to be to have 12 jurors vote to convict them in a 96% Democrat juror pool? Especially given today's hostile political atmosphere, all encompassing propaganda machine, and the general lack of morals and ethics displayed by the American left.

The only scrutiny they get is from a small minority of news organizations that cater to Republican leaning Americans. Those organizations are branded as quackery by the rest of America who also ignores the extreme leftwing/Democrat partisan nature of their own preferred propaganda outlets.

I seriously doubt the taxpayers end up on the hook for anywhere near $10B, but there may be an out of court settlement for far less. A civil suit may be the only mechanism that Trump has the slap the wrist of the IRS for releasing his personal information and gaining restitution for his reputational harm. I don't like it, but I also don't like the left operating by a different set of standards, thinking they can break the rules with impunity, because they've been easily brainwashed into errantly believing that Trump is some sort of uniquely corrupt president while the **** bags they elect will never receive even a fraction of percent of the scrutiny and mudslinging that Trump has.

Are those the two alternatives here? Or is the alternative that we pay DJT for some harm that can't be quantified (so it must be huge) or we don't? How about we don't pay the Somalians and don't pay for this at the same time?

Who the hell gets refunds? I always end up having to pay more.

Another solution would be to eliminate withholding. if people had to write out the full amount of the check each year, there would be riots.
