I am ready for someone besides Miller. They guy has been kind of embarrassment IMO.
Examples? I ask because I'm as ignorant on this subject as one can get.
The controversy over him using department funds to go to a conference in Oklahoma when really what he went for was to get a special steroid shot.
His latest populist posturing to promote some sort preserve of agricultural land. What it really is is misinformed griping about data centers. He wants to keep "agricultural land" agricultural with preservation easements. Sounds good, but the problem is that these agricultural land stopped being agricultural because there was no money in it and farmers quit farming. What has he done to keep the agriculture economy healthy? Practically nothing.
This guy is one of many Trump hangers-on that got elected in the MAGA wave and hasn't done anything.
The best man at my wedding had a neighbor sell a few hundred acres and it was purchased by a company that put solar panels all over it.
Would that be an example of what Miller is trying to stop? Michael wasn't too happy about it, but then he should have bought the land when his neighbor sold it and could have kept it as farm land.
I will have to ask him what he thinks about Miller/Sheets. I honestly don't know what a really good Ag Commissioner actually does except maybe get the **** out of the way.
Solar farms are lumped in with that. I can't say I am happy about solar farms, wind farms, or data centers. On the other hand and as I said, this land is no longer in production because the economics aren't there, so what are we supposed to do with it? My dad bought the farm where I grew up in the late-60s. It had been cotton farmland back into the late -1800s. It is now worth several million because all the other land around is residential. It isn't profitable to farm it because all the other farmers left long ago and the support economy (gins, elevators, fertilizer suppliers, etc) has gone away too. When my brother decides to quit farming, it will probably get sold. Has Sid Miller done anything to stop any of that?
