Wow, a hornet's nest has been whacked with a broomstick.

Not keeping up much with state politics, what is the rift w Miller?
I don't think you know me.

I found out he claims TX State U (probably SW TX State). Took over his mom's honey hobby & that makes him knowledgeable enough to be in charge of the largest agricultural economy in the country? I don't think so. He might go t be a good Christian but that isn't enough in my book.

NEW: Governor Abbott endorses @natesheetsforTX for Agriculture Commissioner!

Nate is a principled leader, who is committed to fighting for the best interests of Texas agriculture, upholding the rule of law, and restoring integrity to the Office of the Commissioner.

He is a Texas-first trade candidate who is laser-focused on producing clean food for Texans and strengthening labor security to protect our border and our ag economy.

Texans deserve an Agriculture Commissioner who is focused on promoting Texas Agriculture, with zero tolerance for criminality. Nate Sheets is the true conservative champion for the job and is the leader we need to keep Texas the global powerhouse in agriculture.

That "restoring integrity" bit is quite the public shot at Miller.

California is way, way ahead of us. And being in ag hasn't stopped people from being ag commissioner. Just look at Jim Hightower.

I've known Nathan... Nate... personally for 30 years.

I don't kniw anything about his mom's honey hobby.

Nathan bought a hive to supplement his income. He grew it and is on the shelves of WalMart and just about every grocer in Texas.

He probably knows a few things about building a "family owned" agricultural business in Texas, which I think would advantage ALL small farmers in Texas.

As someone who achieved LoneStar Farmer, I welcome someone like Nate.

I guess his name is Nathan because I think naming a kid Nate Sheets is too close to the same sound

I was leaning Sheets, but an Abbott endorsement makes me reconsider my vote. I'll probably still vote Sheets, but I wonder what this endorsement means.

Abbott is doing just fine. He's had his wobbles but by and large been a great leader for our state.

Miller is a fan of dissolving TPWD and putting their responsibilities under the department of Ag as a way to get them out of regulating his deer breeder buddies. Wants deer breeding to be classified as agriculture and deer to be considered livestock. That is enough reason for me to vote for Sheets with or without Abbotts endorsement.

Total gross receipts, and it's not close. Nearly twice as much as Texas. https://data.ers.usda.gov/reports.aspx?ID=4048

The controversy over him using department funds to go to a conference in Oklahoma when really what he went for was to get a special steroid shot.

His latest populist posturing to promote some sort preserve of agricultural land. What it really is is misinformed griping about data centers. He wants to keep "agricultural land" agricultural with preservation easements. Sounds good, but the problem is that these agricultural land stopped being agricultural because there was no money in it and farmers quit farming. What has he done to keep the agriculture economy healthy? Practically nothing.

This guy is one of many Trump hangers-on that got elected in the MAGA wave and hasn't done anything.

California grows a massive portion of the retail grocery produce in the United States, and that is higher value higher margin output.

The best man at my wedding had a neighbor sell a few hundred acres and it was purchased by a company that put solar panels all over it.

Would that be an example of what Miller is trying to stop? Michael wasn't too happy about it, but then he should have bought the land when his neighbor sold it and could have kept it as farm land.

I will have to ask him what he thinks about Miller/Sheets. I honestly don't know what a really good Ag Commissioner actually does except maybe get the **** out of the way.

Solar farms are lumped in with that. I can't say I am happy about solar farms, wind farms, or data centers. On the other hand and as I said, this land is no longer in production because the economics aren't there, so what are we supposed to do with it? My dad bought the farm where I grew up in the late-60s. It had been cotton farmland back into the late -1800s. It is now worth several million because all the other land around is residential. It isn't profitable to farm it because all the other farmers left long ago and the support economy (gins, elevators, fertilizer suppliers, etc) has gone away too. When my brother decides to quit farming, it will probably get sold. Has Sid Miller done anything to stop any of that?

Let's not forget how Miller wanted to put out wellbutrin to help cull the pig population. No consideration at all for the other wildlife that may eat that stuff.

No. In fact, he's been for it. However, that was pushed by Abbot's run to solar. Abbott was pushing those solar farms for a while. Remember, he won the Global Energy Wind Wind Leadership Award for his push for green energy. 36% of our grid capacity is from that green energy crap.

I'm not sure what Abbott has against Miller. Maybe the initiative you are talking about has rubbed our "wind energy governor" the wrong way?

Are they following Abbott in order to avoid his wrath? Or do they genuinely feel Miller should be ousted?

Again, I am as ignorant as one can be in this and am not trying to be an ass or have an agenda for either candidate.

I will say I'm not a huge fan of Abbott, but am not totally anti Abbott either. I do not like the massive build up of clean energy to the point of abandoning power that is actually reliable. That's why I've taken an interest here.

Sorry. My fault for not reading the context.

I had thought it was a comment about CA being ahead in ag policy somehow.
