Lot of stuff can be true at once:
- Rob Reiner and his wife died horrifically at the hands of their own son. That's a terrible tragedy for all involved, his family and friends. RIP.
- Trump's tweet was dumb as ****, insensitive, and an own goal. Repubs had a high ground of sorts after the reaction to Charlie Kirk's death. Trump gave a bit of it back here, and even though his tweet wasn't celebratory, it was just dumb and made it all about him. Now every R Congressman, Leavitt, etc will have to explain and answer for it. Stupid, childish, and in many ways on brand for Trump.
- Reiner was riddled with TDS and said some terrible things about Trump and other Republicans over the years. His death had nothing to do with that but he put himself squarely in the political arena with his outspoken toxic leftism.
- I and many others vote for policy over persona. And Trump was the clear choice after the primary. Doesn't mean we condone every thing the man does.
- Personally, I'm tired of the vitriol in politics but it appears here to stay. And while leftists think Trump is the cause of it, there are far far more on the left sowing hatred and division.
American as apple pie...you should have seen what John Adams and Thomas Jefferson were saying about each other during their campaigns.
Adams camp called TJ "a mean-spirited, low-lived fellow, the son of a half-breed Indian squaw, sired by a Virginia mulatto father".
TJ's camp alleged that Adams was a "hideous hermaphroditical character which has neither the force and firmness of a man nor the gentleness and sensibility of a woman".
They also used to have duels and shoot each other to settle disagreements back then. That being said, we are far more divided today than EVER, culturally, politically, ideologically and theologically. If things weren't so abundant and comfortable any easy, things would have gotten extremely brutal and violent by now. I have far less in common with the average leftist than avg northern and southern soldiers had with eachother...and they were butchering one another.
