So your argument is that he only spent 5.5 extra years in a prison torture camp. Do you not see how stupid that is?
My point is that everything you posted is nonsense.
No US prisoner of the North Vietnamese or Viet Cong, spent nine years in captivity. One Army Colonel came close.
You said that McCain spent
nine additional years, which implies that he spent more than nine years. Exactly how long are you claiming that McCain was held?
You claim that McCain agreed to be held so his "subordinates" could go free. What subordinates? Who went free? I am not aware of any Vietnamese-held POWs who were released early. Who were they? How did McCain agree to anything that released them?
Side note, McCain was an O-4 at capture. He didn't have a lot of subordinates.
Finally, yes, it is said that North Vietnam offered McCain early release. As the son and grandson of Navy Admirals, it would have been a massive propaganda victory for the North.
But it would have been breaking rules of conduct for Naval Officers and POWs. As much of an anal orifice as McCain seemed to be throughout his life, even he was not that big of an idiot. He would have been an outcast and pariah, even in his own family. The future senator couldn't have been elected dog catcher after that.
