I have no idea what that is either, but I also don't understand tampons in boys bathrooms, gay cartoon p0rn in elementary school libraries, or men in women's sports/locker rooms/showers, or many other things you and your side fervently support or have supported.

Hilux pickups are easily the most common truck where I live in South America. They're excellent trucks! The most common motor is the 2.7L 5 speed standard, 4wd. I've seen some with a v6. The funny thing here is that Tacomas are seen as more of a status symbol because they aren't near as common. Tundras are very popular, also.

Somebody should follow shifty around and every time he makes another clown post, hit him with a pie. Post like a clown, suffer clown consequences.

Toyota applies the Hilux name to different vehicles. The Hilux you are referring to is probably similar Toyota trucks sold here in the 80s. The Hilux Champ is more of a slightly enlarged kei truck.

The camping packages look kinda cool, but would like to see an impage from all 4 sides.

Any new car with a base $13,000 tag peaks my interest these days. Cars are too damn expensive and are mostly a giant waste of money.

Yep. Great trucks. Those kei trucks are very common here as well. I like the smaller Toyota Dyna. Suzuki makes a tiny one, as well. My favorite is the Kia Bongo with a 6 cylinder, four door, four wheel drive, although it's a little bigger. There are quite a few Chinese version here, also.

I wonder if May, Clarkson and Hammond are going to try and destroy one of these on a new episode of their Amazon show, mimicking their old "Top Gear" show.

The Grand Tour ended last year. They all have their own YouTube channels they post on lately.

Reminds me of when George Bush Sr. expressed surprise at supermarket scanners. That made everyone realize he lived the kind of life where he had probably never walked into a supermarket in 20 years.

These guys are so insulated, so out of touch. They don't circulate with me or you.

Trump has been traveling the world his entire life, with more travel than 99.9999% of Americans, and had never seen or heard of a kei-truck before?

Man, I just want a reliable but basic American 4x4 pickup truck with minimal tech and gadgets. Chevy is trying to appeal to people like me with the "Custom" packages, but American made trucks still make me nervous. My 2018 F150 with 125k mi is sitting in the shop awaiting replacement of the rear main seal...$2,800. Last year it was water pump and a few other things, totaling roughly $4k. The engine in my old 2005 F-150 had significant issues. The last Chevy I had just 'felt' cheap all around.

I just don't trust these products anymore...and then there's the fact that they are stupid expensive.

Will prob get a used 4Runner with V6 for my next ride. Sad how far our auto industry has fallen. I shouldn't have to dump $2 grand here, $3 grand there on a truck with 125k mi.

I regret to this day, giving up my 1979 F150. I was young and thought Ill buy another truck. Used the money to buy a car because gas prices were through the roof in 2009 and 2010.

If only I could have seen the future. Truck ran like a champ. Only ever replaced the waterheater, spark plugs, break pads, tires and oil changes when needed.

Man those are badass trucks. Used to be obsessed with them in HS in the late 90's but got an old beat up muscle car instead. Plus the intelligence agencies couldn't track you or even hijack control of your vehicle with a 1979 F150. EMP wouldn't phase it either. It's "Armageddon proof"

They shout the accusation then whisper the retraction. So the liberal useful idiots never learn the truth. They all still probably think Trump fed the Koi fish "disrespectfully" when meeting with the PM of Japan.

If that clarification was known to me, it didn't stick in my head all these years later.

I should be getting credited for my excellent memory in this thread. Of both Bush and Marcel's prior living arrangement.

I guess I'm confused as to how a subcompact truck like the Hilux doesn't meet US standards? It has a 4 cyl engine with less than 200 HP. Is not having Auto Start/Stop disqualify it? I've never paid attention to it because it's irrelevant for us.

From my brief research, the Tacoma replaced it and seems to be more of branding decision than a US environmental issue?

And not knowing what a kei truck is next level absurdity. And then doubling down on that absurdity by equating it as something as ubiquitous as supermarket scanners. Never heard of it. Probably because we live in the USA and they don't exist here.

Insert Principal Skinner meme here.

Because it doesn't have the required safety suite.

Im reading toyota is likely to produce it in the usa or potentially with usa sourced parts to get around the chicken tax.

Trump has reduced the cafe standard and some safety regulations but the truck would still need to meet the most basic of safety regulations.

I think it'd end up in the low 20s but id imagine the dealers would be a major stumbling block

These would be perfect fleet vehicles for service companies...and I guarantee they'll start showing up at High schools for kids first cars.

If you just needed a cheap commuter vehicle? Perfect.

There was also a loophole, at least before Trump, on CAFE. There is a separate CAFE standard for trucks. It is not based on vehicle function or design but size.

A 1980s Toyota sized truck would actually count as a passenger vehicle. Though more fuel efficient than a full-size truck, it is less efficient than a car. It would screw up their passenger car CAFE.

As a result manufacturers have no incentive to sell a small truck. Hence now a Ranger is almost the same size as an F-150.

In the late 80s my dad bought a F150 ... pure work truck. 2-doors, 6 cyl engine, manual shift, hand crank windows, rubber floor covering, cloth bench seat.

I loved that truck ... came home from A&M and found that he'd sold it.

Aaagh... would have bought it from him.

I had to look it up. If the description was "****ty little asian truck" I would've immediately pictured it. Just never knew it was a specific truck or its name. Still don't know how to say "kei."

Those old 6-cylinder engines (Ford 300, Chevy 250, AMC 258, Dodge Slant 6) will run forever. They may not run fast or efficient, but they will almost never quit.
