When I considered an economics minor at Texas A&M, I asked if they taught Austrian economics as a course and they said no. This was back in 2010.

There you go.

Anecdote. I came home in the summer of 1983 and my dad asked me about my studies. I told him all I had learned about Keynesian economics and my dad looks at me and says, "You go to a liberal school." I'm a cadet and say, "Dad, Texas A&M is a very conservative school." He says, "That may be, but your faculty is liberal." Didn't understand then, but I do now.

I got a similar speech in the 80s from an uncle that graduated in the 60s. Didn't know what he meant at the time, but it made sense a few years after graduation.

In all fairness, since 95% of modern journalism is gatekeeping by smothering news and opinion unhelpful to the cause, it could be argued that the Batt is training modern "journalists".

The Batt is the reason why I didn't' think we should add a Journalism department. All you are doing with that is solidifying a left wing foothold at your school.

I would have fewer issues with Kaynes if politicians understood the second half of his prime the pump with deficits during downturns idea. Unfortunately, cutting government spending and running surpluses in great times is completely lost on the ruling class.

ETA. I still believe in the Austrian way of thinking but our government would be better if they followed both sides of the deficit/surplus argument.

I agree that Keynes's larger philosophies are synonymous with big government progressivism starting with FDR on up to Reagan.

He and/or his disciples also invented or popularized a lot of the analytical datapoints that are still accepted by all wings of economics. Aggregate demand indicators, spending multipliers, etc are all still basic features of economic theory. You just have to teach some of his work.

Unfortunately he and his followers took those and made the big jump into the General Theory and it took the Chicago school to break the Saltwater economic programs grip on government policymaking here and in Europe.

Because of you, I know I can make my greatest contributions as an educator here, and you are the reason I intend to serve the remainder of my career at Texas A&M University.

Who is Anonymous Tenured Professor? Calling oneself and educator will generally rule out scientists, engineers, medical, agriculture and business departments. That leaves us with the "arts". My best guess would be a "studies of" department.
