Vet the people you're hiring but if I was a red state governor that had a big shortage of officers in an area, I'd be putting in time figuring out how to recruit those guys.

I do not understand why anyone would apply for a position with NYPD or any other city that is run by cop hating politicians.

If you are lucky they will just fire you at the first opportunity. If you are not so lucky you will be thrown to the wolves or just be out right maimed or killed by the Pols loyal voters.

Go somewhere you are appreciated and respected. You will lead a much happier life.

Being a cop or a firefighter in those cities is often more tied to being a family thing. Second, third and fourth generation families go into that line of work. So there are other reasons at play as to why they wouldn't move. Their family is there.

For the young ones it's probably no big deal. Got the older guys and gals there are probably some serious pension related questions that have to ask themselves.
I don't know the terms of the NYPD retirement/pension program.
How much time in service do they have?
How long will they have to work in Florida (or anywhere) for retirement eligibility
How secure is the current NYPD pension under a socialist

Correct. "Blue bloods" and other such shows are not entirely fiction in that regard. For some police work legacy has similar honors and respect in the lineage as military service.

At the union top echelon, you are correct. Average beat cop? No.

I thought a common policy of Police Departments when hiring a Police Officer from another city they did not retain the same rank or equivalent rank?
Was I mistaken or has this changed?
