I'm very surprised our resident leftys haven't shown up to chime in that they are moving. I mean, it's going to be a socialist utopia now.

Central Park, NYC today.

This is the dawning of the age of aquarius

everyone who loves free handouts from government, don't worry about how government gets things, flock there.
all criminals who want to commit crimes and not be punished, flock to your new haven.
all illegal immigrants who want protection from immigration enforcement, flock to your free stuff utopia.

Criminals, illegals, Muslims, and overall leaches on society.

Of course there will be some well to do white liberals who will move there to virtue signal.

Yep, they will stay in their little "Elysium" bubbles far above the streets and in the tiny safe enclaves and then proclaim how safe the entire city is and how it's all just conservative lies and smear tactics.

I hope the violence and chaos gets off the charts bad. That no white liberal elitist remains safe.

I like the "Elysium bubbles." Exactly. Like Tyrell in Bladerunner in that lofty pyramid skyscraper. In a way each MSM tower is sort of such a place. No concept of true human nature and how fragile the American elevating above it for a time was.

My guess is nothing actually happens. NY was liberal to begin with.
So the latest mayor is a commie. How much is that different from your average New Yorker?
If you make millions, what's a few more tens of thousands on your taxes. Enough to make you mad? Maybe.
Enough to make you move? No way.

Its why the R message of low taxes has never resonated with many in California. Sure some middle, lower middle class people leave, but the rich rarely do. They make enough money to where they can afford the stupidity of their politicians.

I think it is the crime and the demographic changes that are going to wear a lot of more moderate people down. The city will just lose any luster it once had and will be trashier than ever and completely unrecognizable.

You can't take the nimby-Karen out of every liberal.

Now, they absolutely will not self-reflect or admit any fault and will blame their political oposition ENTIRELY, but they will still not be happy with what NYC is now pretty much set-in-stone to become.

Such a great movie. And if you haven't seen Bladerunner 2049, you should check it out.

A lot of what Mamdani promised he likely won't be able to deliver (he'll blame Trump and the sheep will buy it) but on things like defunding or cutting back police or emptying jails that he might have more direct control over is what will bring more immediate "change" for the worse.

I was thinking that as I get to early semi-retirement in next few years around age 56 it makes sense to move to Manhattan

find something cheap.

wear a hoodie and sweat pants..

then steal as much as I can every day from stores all over the city.

Sounds like a fantastic way to ride out the rest of your life to me

NYC was once a place that everyone wanted to visit (not live there) because it was a concrete jungle that was so different than where people lived. Now, other than foreigners and liberals, I can't think of anyone that would plan to visit there. They literally just closed the door to tourism and opened the door to crime.

Not to mention their rat problem. The more filthy Muslims that move there who are unhygenic and don't care about picking up their trash, the worse it's going to be.

NYC population set to skyrocket if rent control is expanded and free stuff gets handed out.

Except that rent control totally locks down movement between properties, would it not? Unless it all becomes rent-controlled....but then here come the shortages as per Supply v. Demand.

But also, as the OP suggests, it will drive out the more reasonable people and people "of means"...the spenders and taxpayers...and it will attract hordes of immigrants and leaches. Yeah, it's pretty much the same thing places like NY and Cali have been doing over time, just much more "extreme" and "accelerated".

I have a very wealthy friend up there who relocated his family to their mansion in the hamptons. He usually mocks us on group texts for our "sky is falling" politics and predictions, but you can tell he is now legitimately concerned (he's also lower case jewish). He has always been in love with NYC but I would not be surprised if he relocated his family back to TX or another state altogether. And when people like him move, there goes a lot of spending power and tax revenue for the city.

Likely they'll see a Muslim influx.

The Jews of NY are gonna hate this and there's no going back. All the complaining in the world will not make the newcomers go away. imo many Muslims will have a tit for tat mindset. tat being Israeli state activity.

Their culture is viscious and nothing like judeo-christian culture. The jews won't be able to complain their way out of this one. They can only leave...or just accept living in a more dangerous and hostile place. Will they accept some of the blame though, is the question. Probably not, they are used to only blaming others, and maintining perpetual "victimhood" status.

The drug addicts and homeless gravitate to where they are welcomed, so that population might explode.

They might have to get in a bidding war with CA to bring more in, one up the other with freebies. I can't see this commie moving anyone off the streets ether. Tent sales should go through the roof and damn it's gonna stink.

Way to go guys.

I have family in NYC, it's a New Yorker phenomenon that they always talk about leaving but never do. I think they will personally have to deal with ridiculous hardship in order ti pack up and move.

I dunno. Seems like there are a lot of former New Yorkers in Florida.

It's an excellent modern sequel spin on a classic. Has that same dark suspenseful dystopian vibe too, but somehow not depressing to me. Top notch cinematography. Denis Villeneuve is one of the best directors/filmmakers alive imo.
