Why not negotiate with her directly? It would further the divide of the Democratic Party. She has to be a nitwit negotiator and will agree to anything to gain the appearance of power. Senate Democrats will have to choose between AOC and Schumer.

Because she is the one holding Schumer's hand to the fire to keep the government shut down in an effort to get the socialist redistribution funding for ObamaCare.

What's to negotiate?

That's sort of the problem. There is nothing to negotiate.

If they want to discuss their objectives, reopen the government. If they don't want to reopen, there is nothing to discuss.

BTW - the talking heads today seem to think we have at least another week regardless of how elections go total. At that point, you are less than 10 days from needing another CR.

So… the CR has to be redone to provide a longer timeframe or it's essentially worthless.

Dems have been on a streak of massively overplaying their hand.

AOC looks weak right now as she is not wanting to drive an end to the shutdown. Absolutely zero reason to elevate that horse faced puny soldier by offering a branch of conciliation.

To a Dem, the appearance of power is the opposite of what Trump and supporting Republicans want. She is a nitwit and wouldn't have the maturity to overcome that.

Her seat at the big kids' table.

"We know you and Schumer have differences and he's on the way out. We want you at the negotiating table once the government is open."

I don't think it's his hand she's got a hold of...

I get that, but what is she offering Trump that he needs or wants? Dems are offering nothing. Reopening the government is not a bargaining chip. It's their side who will suffer the most.

She's offering Trump the government open. I think she's too stupid that she will fall for it once she's blinded by power.

She won't offer that without expecting something from Trump.

He is not offering anything.

And there is way too much downside for her to appear to be offering anything to Trump.

Dems have themselves a pickle. They are not simply negotiating from a place of weakness, they are Emperor Hirohitos on the deck of the Missouri.

I'll never understand how a dip**** know-nothing bartender who's never done a thing to actually make America strong can take over a political party.

Almost like the only common thread is ignorant voters who want daddy government to take care of them. Almost.

We all should want AOC to replace Schumer. She's incredibly stupid. She would get nothing done for New York and have no idea how to help their state. Schumer is a schmuck but he's not stupid. He knows stuff and more importantly, he knows where the bodies are buried. He's like Pelosipowerful and difficult to work with because of their connections to money. AOC is none of that.

There are 212 dems in the current Congress.

Is there really 107 of the party that would vote for that broad?

They can't be that stupid, can they?

She has a good shot at it, better than many, given the nature of the Progressive electorate. However, it depends on if the real deciders like installed Biden want to permit that or how it figures into the apparent elevation of Newsome at present.

The GOP House should have elected her Speaker just to watch her get nothing done.

All you guys who dismiss AOC as a "nitwit" or "stupid" so what she does doesn't matter are very shortsighted to dismiss her. I used to do that, but now I'm not so sure.

Yes her politics are crazy and she says stupid stuff, but if you look at things she does politically, I'm not so sure she's dumb. For example, she commissioned studies of why folks in her district voted for Trump because a number of her supporters did. A stupid politician wouldn't have done that. For that reason, she is dangerous. She isn't a Lina Hildalgo unfortunately.

She believes that if she is successful in getting the useful idiots to keep giving her more power, she will be living in the palace and running things while the rest of us are begging for gruel from her to survive. And she's right about that.

She knows how to get votes and gain power, pretty much all Dems seem to care about these days.

None of them know how to do anything to make the country better, just convince their voters they actually care

She is not as dumb as some thing, correct. Or your example. Or as dead-end self-negating as Crockett will probably be. Remember, the Left voters have demonstrated they do not care about "the record" you bring (it is why Newsome doesn't have as much to fear as right wing news like to think. Record rarely matters---it is whatever the MSM allows it to be with a Dem candidate) Same with AOC. And she does check the box of all the women vote that wants to vote for a woman regardless.

Most importantly, she is not 100% compliant. She actually criticized some things about Pelosi and Schumer handling of J6 and didn't give a pass for the open status and non security. These kind of things make her potentially dangerous in an election in the sense of being able to draw in from just the hard line left side. Finally there is the identity politics side of it; she is not a white woman. All these may matter.

AOC said the quiet part out loud last night.

She stated that in Virginia a moderate Democrat is the face of the party. In NYC, Zoran Mamdani is "absolutely the face of the Democrat party".

So they are going to run on the appearance of being moderate here, no so woke there, hells yes boys in the girls room over there, socialism here, anti-semitism back over there and the like.

Sort of a repeat of the Biden tactic to run on completely false tenses then government like a commie radical when in office.
