Venenzuelan Nationals Arrested in ATM Theft

Quote:

Two Venezuelan nationals were arrested early Thursday morning in Albany, accused of stealing money from an ATM at Clear Fork Bank.
According to the Shackelford County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded to reports of suspicious activity at the bank's drive-through on October 16 at around 3:40 a.m. When they arrived, they found multiple suspects involved in the theft.
Oliveres Davila Luis Jose, and Silva Guette Eliober were taken into custody as they attempted to leave the scene. A second vehicle and additional people were spotted nearby and are believed to be connected to the incident.
Police say the crime appears to involve "jackpotting," a sophisticated method used to access and withdraw cash from ATMs illegally. A substantial amount of money was stolen, but the exact total has not been released.

A couple of asylum seekers that were here legally are now in jail.

Moral of the story is that you don't try stealing money from a bank located on Main Street in a small west Texas town. Everybody knows everybody, and if you look suspicious, someone will call 911.

Liberal response to this crime: it's Trump's fault that these poor people are reduced to a life of crime. This would have never happened if Trump had not cut their benefits.

If these folks have the ability and intelligence to pull this off, then what does that say about the security of these systems?

"jackpotting" is a term that's being used to describe the means by which an attacker can get an ATM machine to dispense cash outside of its normal legitimate transaction-based processing.

  • Malware based This is when malware is introduced into the operating system of the ATM. This is done by gaining access to a USB port on the ATM being physically accessed. The malware then sends the dispense commands to the dispenser causing it to distribute the cash.
  • Black Box Attacks is achieved by disconnecting the cash dispenser from the ATM's motherboard and connecting it to an attacker's device to interact directly with the cash dispenser.
  • Man-in-The-Middle involves the attacker placing their own device between the ATM and the host service provider. The attacker then responds to transaction authorization requests from the ATM without actually reaching out to the core networks.

Sounds like criminals are getting lazy. What happened to hooking a chain up to the machine and dragging it off?

It was a huge problem a few years ago for gangs out of Houston to use hooks and a stolen truck to pop open the ATM vault. Then just reach in and grab the cash. Banks have gone back and added gates in the front that prevent most of this. So sounds like they have come up with something new but it sounds like it's the same folks.

About .001% of these so called "asylum seekers" were legit, in fear for their lives. Most went through more than one other country to get here and didn't ask for asylum in any of those other countries. I hate the whole "asylum" BS. Screw all of the dems and their stupid voters.

Great breakdown.

You can buy the necessary equipment and scripts fairly easily on several forums on onion. Don't know if it's easy to use. I'm sure you have to have some knowledge of the operating systems. They were doing this at DEFCON ages ago I feel like. You'd think they would care to fix the exploit(s).

Method 2 involves an app. Good thing Texas will require IDs to download apps soon

This is something many Americans failed to understand about immigration from countries with very high crime rates. Criminals there are the major leagues of criminals. Our criminals here are bush league, amateur, compared to Latin American burglary and robbery gangs. Can you imagine being a professional criminal in a Third World country where everything, including Residences, have better security than many banks in America? And then you come here to the US where many people don't even lock their cars! And doors to homes and businesses that contain tens of thousands of dollars of readily marketable portable goods are locked with a simple key?

So things like this don't surprise me at all, we simply are not ready for their level of play.

Further to my point just above, we never had to because our criminals were the type to hook up chains to an ATM and try to drag it off and pry it open with hand tools. Amateurs.

A friend of mine had a very large laundromat and advised me about where not to place the coin changing machines. He had two or three in the building, but put one directly across from the front door to the place. Thugs backed up to the building, broke out the glass in the front door, ran a cable inside and around the machine, attached it to the bumper, and took off. It all went down at 1am or 2am or so.

So these punks take off down the street dragging the machine behind them and it just so happened one of the city cops saw them and arrested them, lol.
