Whirlpool and Maytag used to be the Gold Standards in home appliances. Have to admit that in the last 20 years or so, have been very disappointed with those brands for major appliances. The longevity is gone. I am lucky to have The Hubs who can work on appliances and cars so he can fix them if he can get the parts and keep them going for a few more years, if that.

Meanwhile, out in the barn, we had 50 year old freezers ad refrigerators that still worked, if you could find the freon that is.

but but but libs told us the world was flat now and all jobs will go overseas and we could not stop it.

All it takes is the President administering some swift kicks in the rears of CEOs and they are all scurrying to bring jobs back to the US. They better do it, not just talk (I don't trust these scumbags).

Good Trump.

My Bosch dishwasher is the best thing I've ever seen and barely heard. It better never die because it does such a good job. Plus, I could sit next to it while having a conversation on my phone and nobody would ever notice.

Now I feel officially old since I'm celebrating a dishwasher

Maytag's are trash. Coincidentally, they are owned by Whirlpool. I will never own Maytag again. We bought a washer and dryer at our last house because we had to only a couple of months before we moved and left them for the new owners for free. The dryer was fine but the washer was total crap. Some of the wash cycles flat out didn't work and anytime you would use it, it would physically end up about 3 feet from its starting point. It sounded like it was going to explode every time we used it. Just wild how bad it was.

We currently use some old GE's from 1998 that are still going strong. My goal going forward will be to buy the most non-technical, basic appliances we can find. That might be hard to do but that's the goal.

Whirlpool bought Amana, while I was still living not-too-far from Amana, Iowa where the factories are.

You're right, their quality has gone downhill, like a lot of US mfg quality.

It sucks to think that one time, "American Made" meant a product that was second to no one when it came to quality.

Those were good times...

they figured out there is more money to be made in appliances that last 10 years and have $500 parts than the old trusty models. government mandates don't help.

Have started to do the same with cars. bought an old c-10 and asked how much it would be to completely rebuild it with a local shop here in the hill country. Complete with paint job, about 25k.

Damn right that is hard. Too much technology! Why on earth does anyone need a motherboard ina washing machine or dryer? Or a fridge for that matter?

We had an front loader Whirlpool and dryer for several years. The Hubs had to order those modules twice in less than ten years. We had actually put those in our lakehouse meaning they got less use since we didn't live there but that also meant washing a lot of sheets, beach towels, comforters, and the like.

When we built the ranch house, moved the Whirlpools into that house and replaced them with much older top loading washer and dryer. And those old ones at the lake were still working when we sold the house.

In the meantime, The Hubs threw up his hands and was tired of working on those Whirlpools, especially as the prices for the parts kept going up and up. I too was done with frontloaders and touchscreens. I wanted dials and knobs and an agitator in the center of the washer. Scoured the internet to find new ones without displays.

Can't find one. I tried hard to find something without those particular bells and whistles. I finally found the most low tech W/D I could find and got those. Replaced both for about $1,200 and change and The Hubs had to go pick it up, dispose of the old ones and install new ones himself. (Did I mention The Hubs is very very handy?)

I have also been very disappointed in Cuisinart coffeemakers. Had two high dollar ones just quit on me after three years each. Each time, I had kept an old Mr. Coffee and used that until I could get another coffee maker.

Now, The Hubs and I can adapt to a fridge going out as we have a ton of coolers. We have extra sheets and covers and clothes so W/D being out of service for a week was not a huge issue.

BUT THE COFFEE MAKER??? Oh hell, no.
