We currently use some old GE's from 1998 that are still going strong. My goal going forward will be to buy the most non-technical, basic appliances we can find. That might be hard to do but that's the goal.
Damn right that is hard. Too much technology! Why on earth does anyone need a motherboard ina washing machine or dryer? Or a fridge for that matter?
We had an front loader Whirlpool and dryer for several years. The Hubs had to order those modules twice in less than ten years. We had actually put those in our lakehouse meaning they got less use since we didn't live there but that also meant washing a lot of sheets, beach towels, comforters, and the like.
When we built the ranch house, moved the Whirlpools into that house and replaced them with much older top loading washer and dryer. And those old ones at the lake were still working when we sold the house.
In the meantime, The Hubs threw up his hands and was tired of working on those Whirlpools, especially as the prices for the parts kept going up and up. I too was done with frontloaders and touchscreens. I wanted dials and knobs and an agitator in the center of the washer. Scoured the internet to find new ones without displays.
Can't find one. I tried hard to find something without those particular bells and whistles. I finally found the most low tech W/D I could find and got those. Replaced both for about $1,200 and change and The Hubs had to go pick it up, dispose of the old ones and install new ones himself. (Did I mention The Hubs is very very handy?)
I have also been very disappointed in Cuisinart coffeemakers. Had two high dollar ones just quit on me after three years each. Each time, I had kept an old Mr. Coffee and used that until I could get another coffee maker.
Now, The Hubs and I can adapt to a fridge going out as we have a ton of coolers. We have extra sheets and covers and clothes so W/D being out of service for a week was not a huge issue.
BUT THE COFFEE MAKER??? Oh hell, no.
