Personal income is still reduced by expenses when you are self-employed or have a small business. Overstating and misclassifying expenses when self-employed is the oldest trick in the book.

Edit: ok, it's the second oldest, behind just underreporting cash revenue.

A small price to pay to eliminate the IRS.

These ****ers have kept my refund from the 2024 tax return field in April for almost 6 months. Now, I guess they have an excuse to keep it for as long as this shutdown lasts.

****-em.

There's never been a better time to be a tax cheat!
This will be the golden age of tax evasion….until the IRS starts using AI to audit tax returns and expose all the cheats. Any doubt about who will be vehemently opposed to that??

Me. I will be against it

Anyone who pays most of their taxes via withholding should be against that. Really hard to meaningfully cheat.

And remember kids, there's a 6-year statute of limitations on tax evasion. Do you trust them to stay asleep at the wheel for that long?

Certainly not the 50% that do not pay net fed income taxes. They need to bleed the producers some more to pay for their handouts.

I have posted on here what everyone's fair share is. The dems and fake libertarians don't care. It's all about sticking it to the evil rich

. There's no statute of limitations for tax evasion. There is a 6 year statute if you underreported gross income by > 25%

I would be thrilled to pay the $54k that my family owes this year to the IRS to cover our share of the expenditures.

But you have to make up for the moochers. Our system is broken

Interesting, so I guess the gap is the civil/criminal divide. They can come after you civilly forever, but it does seem there's a six year limit for most criminal charges. But either way, yeah, until the day you die, and maybe after, they can come after you for their money, with interest and penalties.

In conclusion, don't actually cheat on your taxes. The AI audits are going to eat you alive in a few years.

I propose the government take 100% of your salary and then give you back a debit card with just enough to live on; then you won't cheat on taxes, and the government can pay off the debt.

Win/Win

Nice. Dems should love that.

I bet there are more welfare cheats than tax cheats. Too many libs think using all allowable deductions means you are a tax cheat.

Seems like making sure people and especially corporations pay what they owe would be a big part of government efficiency.

Because if there's anyone who needs more of our hard earned money its...

The Government. You know, the folks with a 6 trillion dollar budget.

Pass a flat tax and eliminate 95% of them.
every time someone suggests this, an intuit/H&R block lobbyist sprints to drop a duffel bag of cash on your congressman's desk to prevent it

It's not only that. Leftist politicians love it so they can stick it to the rich while taking more off paying taxes. It's a joke. Too many people have zero skin in the income tax game.

That wouldn't change much - many tax evasion techniques would still apply in a flat income tax.

Then do a consumption tax.
