I got banned at reddit.
Lots of lefty snowflakes on there.

I have had about 10 accounts banned.

Sounds like a you problem.
No it's a them problem.

After getting banned for NOTHING, I did an experiment where I made 2 new accounts. One conservative and one liberal. Neither accounts posted ANYTHING. All I did was subscribe to a bunch of conservative and liberal subs respectively. Guess which account got banned?

I would bet that much like X a lot of their "traffic" is driven by bots/content farms. The whole thing has this weird vibe as a house of cards.

That is 100% obvious to anyone. It's a low IQ circle jerk about leftist ideas.

Reddit is definitely a cesspool, in general.

But there are uninfected reddits with info/interest groups focused on very specific topics that just don't exist elsewhere.

For topics like:
MAME (Multi Arcade Machine Emulator, originally, but now the acronym is just those letters, kinda like A&M)
GrapheneOS
Aviation
HomeAssistant
Raspberry_Pi

you'd have a hard time finding a better concentrated or robust source of data.

It's a shame the crazies make a large majority of the reddits unbearable.

There are actually quite a few stories out there of people getting banned from one sub because they were members of a different sub, or because they upvoted something the mod didn't like.

Remember a few years back when, if a celebrity liked a Twitter post that might be slightly offensive they would have to apologize for being insensitive? That stuff still happens on Reddit except they just ban you and everyone is anonymous. I don't care how good the non-political subs are, if that stuff is going on elsewhere Reddit doesn't need my eyeballs.

I like the non-political boards on reddit. It can be a good resource for getting information. I have noticed that the moderation has cooled down lately.

Nope it's all a cesspool and politics find its way into every board because it's majority is bits and crazies.

Even the surfing became ******ed. Anything that questioned government was downvoted during Biden years.

I love how everyone keep saying this - yet it isn't true.

I know because I'm on there. I suspect those that say this are not. And I'm sure if they were then it did happen on the boards they were on. There is no doubt it does happen and many boards are prone to more of it. For example the Dallas board itself can be overrun at times because of city or community stuff that does tend to attract the crazies especially at times like during protests and with any police presence or ICE related stuff like the recent shooting.

But there are tons of boards that I frequent that I've never seen anything political. Mostly entertainment related like for bands or TV shows or movies unless that band or TV show or movies swerves into politics itself.

So anyway saying it infiltrates everywhere is just not true.

Actually I remember seeing this.
I was on a sub and then joined another similar sub. The mod of the first sub threatened everyone of banning if they joined the other one. Weird.

I do agree that most message boards eventually get ruined by politics and mods....

for example the IMDB used to be a great place to talk about movies but people ruined the boards with politics and fanboy flooding either pro or against certain movies. It became about them and not the movies.

That is because a great idea is great, but there is pressure to "innovate" and people run out of ideas so they put in bs ideas which copy others so things degrade.

Back in the earlier days of the internet we had USENet which was like a peer-to-peer bulletin board system. The communication structure was very similar to how reddit is today with the additional functionality of cross posting across multiple newsgroups (subreddits). Back then with smaller communities most people actually used their real names too, and the politics was kept to a minimum. What ruined it was the explosion of dialup services, new users who didn't bother to learn the culture of a newsgroup, off-topic shtposting, and abuse of anonymity.

Early on, I got banned for "misgendering" people. Early on, I would get banned for flat out saying, "uh... that's a dude". So I stopped coming out and saying that. There was a time I got banned for merely alluding to it. Some black dude would post pictures of himself saying "what do you think of my painting" (or something)? And it was him holding a crappy painting while he was in full out drag and eye make up and whatnot. And of course, everybody would claim how "GORGEOUS" he looked, and I just posted something like "this has nothing to do with the painting" or something to that effect.

It seemed as I learned what not to do, that they would have to be more and more nitpicky to ban me. The last time (and I haven't gone back), was wasn't for me saying anything political. I was banned across a bunch of individual subs, and I think they just got tired of me. The excuse they used was "making a threat" by quoting a movie. I forget what movie, but the whole thread was about that movie. It's like whenever a thread about "Airplane!" comes up, and people riddle it with funny quotes from the movie.. But it got flagged by AI for making a threat, and I issued a appeal, but the human moderators kept the ban anyway.

I did get banned from one subreddit once - for replying to a post someone else made that was against that specific subs rules - apparently commenting on something like that is spamming the thread. I was actually critical of the post but it was not my criticism that got me banned just the fact that I replied at all.

I objected saying I don't know the rules of each sub and can't take the time to read them - they didn't care.

I find Reddit to be helpful with non-political discussions such as sports, concerts, information on reparing things, etc. Lots of data on there. But once you get close to anything political, you are right, and see how whacko the people are politically.
