I have heard a reference that a congressman, or Senator are protected and can say, claim almost any slanderous statement as long as it is done on capital hill. What group hijacked the democratic is maximizing this advantage. Adam Shift is the prime example of this.

Most members of Congress are corrupt from one degree to another. They've been selling us out for decades in return for $$$ in one form or another. I believe term limits would help immensely.

Speech and Debate clause, article 1, section 6 I believe, lets them say anything they want more or less from the floor of the senate or house.

Technically, they can't be charged for slander/libel in these speeches, but practically they could be expelled if the House/Senate chose to do so for what is said. Practically, it's used as a shield for all kinds of stupid things Democrats in particular say.

Seems that rule should be changed considering all the content is now published for public consumption.

Free speech in congress does have consequences. In this case Preston Brooks was punished ($300 fine).

Preston Brooks was the most radical Democratic senator of his day.

Politicians make the laws. It's just like judges who have absolved themselves through the law of any wrongdoing in terms of probably cause in an affidavit or releasing a violent criminal back on the street to commit more violence.

In the past, once a man had earned what he needed to earn, he would give back to his community and nation by entering politics. It was a service, not a career. Now we just have parasites.
