Where was the rifle?

When the shooter jumped off the roof top, where was the rifle? They said it was found in the woods, but I did not see him carrying it when he climbed down, jumped off, and ran away.

Yes. I thought the same thing.

I was wondering this myself.
I've seen the video of him jumping from the roof. He's got a bag with him, but it doesn't look like the rifle would be in that. Unless he threw it off the roof before he jumped, but I don't see him picking it up after he hits the ground. Maybe an accomplice took it and ditched it?
Also, there's the video of him going to the event, the "limping video", which looks to be him concealing a rifle under his right side (under clothing) as he walks from left to right - the video then switches to after the shooting and he no longer has the rifle as he comes from the other direction. It was obviously ditched before this frame.

Watch as he drags bag off roof right before jumping down. It flops like the bolt action was taken down and baged in 2 parts, stock/barrel (upper/lower). That would explain it fitting into back pack on way up. Perhaps there was a zipper jam or some other reason he didnt back carry it. Hard to tell in this res.

After crossing the street FBI said he ditched gun in woods. It looks like the gun and the shells were marked with antifa and pro trans idealogy....not sure why we don't yet know exactly what words.

When he gets down from The roof, there is some sort of loose clothing like a jacket or maybe that's his bag that he's carrying in his arms.
Every once in a while, you can see the barrel poking out from the loose Jacket.
He was using whatever cloth item to slightly conceal his rifle, and was allowing the barrel to poke out at times.

In the preshooting other video, he's limping because the rifle is going down his leg. He can only bend his leg so much. Ask anyone that's been in a knee immobilizer what it's like to walk.

I can think of two reasons why that hasn't been released. 1. Don't spread the killer's message for him. 2. Exact wording could help distinguish between false and valid tips received.

Where was the rifle when he walked up the stairs?

I know there are modern skeletonized foldable stocks. Probably some quick takedown models. They havent released any details on bolt action model other than caliber (to my knowledge).

We will eventually know the exact gun, and should learn exact message he left behind...fair point on withholding details to distinguish credibility at this phase.

It was a Mauser bolt action .30-06. He fired one shot, spent casing still in the rifle. If this is true, he wouldn't have taken the time to disassemble the rifle. He was making a bee-line for his egress point.
They found it with the optics attached. So I still don't see him handling a full length rifle coming off that roof.
But maybe I'm seeing it wrong.

Three law-enforcement officials, speaking on the condition of anonymity, told the New York Times that the recovered gun was an older-model Mauser rifle. Other U.S. media outlets also cited sources to say it was an imported Mauser .30-06 bolt-action rifle.

Thanks, we will see if this is true. Perhaps a takedown model fit in backpack, scope mounted.

*Odd to add the "imported" detail. Wonder if thats based on a foreign mfg marking, or if they found SN records that could provide leads.

That would explain the roof video. What I don't get is, if it's a breakdown rifle that he had in the backpack going up the stairs, what is the "limping video" showing? Why would he conceal the full rifle under his clothes, limping to the event, if he could just as easily contain it broken down in his backpack?
Just trying to put it together.

Because he's an insufferable idiot that didn't know what he was doing and misguided on why.

Yes, I don't really understand the timeline or if he had one of the many 'quick takedown' variety of mausers etc. He assuredly didn't have/use this version, but it's illustrative of these existing which I didn't even realize. They did report that the rifle was found wrapped in a towel I think.

The video of the shooter jumping off roof clearly shows a soft case rifle bag.

What I am having a hard time understanding is the location of the shooter versus the path of the bullet. Everything I've seen says he was on the building directly in front of Kirk, but the bullet cam from Kirk's right through his neck to the left. Kirk was facing the building that they say he was on but that just does not make sense.
