Are you serious? In math? Do you realize how much humans have been able to advance because we can do calculations faster?

You are talking about the best of the best in math. The ordinary person is dumber in math now.

Doctors tend to have good cognition and general intelligence and literally years of specialized training.

Then explain why they went full r*tard over a cold virus 5 years ago. A lot of the problems they have caused that will take decades to undo was done right in front of them. They will do and lie about anything if money tells them to. They are no worse than Congress.

"It was the flu" was not only censored, it was the absolute truth. The data out of Italy in late 2019 and early 2020 proved it.

Tinfoil hat nonsense

You go to medical school: 4 years
Residency (Internal Medicine) : 3 Years
Fellowship(s) (gastroenterology): 3-4 Years
Board Certification

Amount of time for AI to ruin your skills: 6 months

After 6 months of using AI to "assist" in diagnosis, doctors' tumor detection rate WITHOUT THE AI dropped from 28.4% to 22.4%. This seems to be a reasonably good study, random assignment, large sample size ( n> 1400), etc.

Doctors tend to have good cognition and general intelligence and literally years of specialized training. Imagine what this is doing to our HS/College students.

Not a real surprise I guess, but a vivid example. But, the AI leads to much better diagnosis, so does it matter if the doctors get 20% worse? Idiocracy indeed.

Heck, with AI, we should just go ahead and close the schools, right?
Does it matter if in 6 months of AI use Johnny or Janie loses 20% of their critical thinking? Who thinks it would, on average, be worse than the physicians?

Continuing my last AI post...

The good news, folks are mad at ChatGPT for killing off their AI lovers with the latest version. But, if I wanted to make bank, I would start up an "adults only AI" with strong warnings offering this. I'm sure ChatGPT is afraid of reputational damage as it mainstreams.

How much worse do Dr's do at diagnosing if you take away their MRI? I am sure Dr's got worse at diagnosing from just xrays once they had MRIs.

Seems like just another big step in technology.

The only real question is are they more effective with it vs without.

I will give a great example of how technolgy has made us so much dumber and ruined out ability to think.

15 years ago, if you were to post on an internet message board like this one "The police are arresting people for wearing shirts with an elephant on them!" 90% of posters would have responded with "do you have a link on that?

Now, if you post any random Twitter user saying " The police are arresting people for wearing shirts with an elephant on them!" 90% of posters believe it!!

It's sad that this is so true.
There are in fact two things, science and opinion; the former begets knowledge, the later ignorance. Hippocrates

Did the invention of the calculator and later the computer make us dumber?

In math? Absolutely!

AI doesn't "make us dumber". It causes us to use our cognitive ability less. And the less we use it, the less sharp we become. That's a fact Jack!

Based on what evidence?

You're saying the stupidity was caused by AI? Or, that's just a stupid, lazy lawyer?

How about both? He has come to overly rely on AI to the point he doesn't even double check.

If you watch the video, opposing counsel raises an issue he has noticed in the timing of that lawyer's filings. Counsel files a motion for summary judgment which are complex filings. And that attorney filed his response to the motion for summary judgment just a few hours later.

Ain't no way that is possible if a human lawyer is writing that response to a complex motion full of case law citations. Not even enough time to thoroughly read and digest the original motion.

Also, this lawyer appears to be a solo practitioner who is licensed n multiple states and federal courts. Can't be that proficient in all of them as the judge points out.

His point is that we are getting "dumber" because of AI.

If we continue, we are absolutely dependent on the machines because we are no longer capable or competent enough to do the jobs without them.

But that has already happened with technology we have. For example, the DCS (distributed control system) runs the chemical plants. No DCS, no chemical production!

This has been happening in aviation for over two decades. Too many pilots can't fly the airplane when automated systems go tits up.

I agree with this statement. Older folks like most of us here aren't much at risk because we got through formative years without these crutches. Today's kids are at risk. They can just ask AI to write their essays and do homework. All for free.

It is like getting a gym membership and asking a friend to go pump weights for you and wondering why you aren't getting stronger.
