The real cost.
TLDR: Garbage "immigrant" CDL killed my friend.
On Feb 21st 2024, my friend Jason Humphrey was run over by Miguel Montes (the killer). All through the court appearances, the killer needed an interpreter because he didn't understand English. He was a resident that was given a CDL.
Based on in-cab video evidence, the killer looked down at his cell phone (he had two phones in fact) 55 times in the 20 minutes prior to the accident. Jason was on his bright orange motorcycle, full gear, helmet, gloves, boots, etc. He had gotten off the night shift at the sheriff's office and was heading to met his wife. He signaled, slowed, began moving into a right turn lane. The killer plowed into him at 65 miles per hour, did not brake until after impact. The impact threw Jason into the ditch (~100ft), shattered his bike, his body impacted a telephone pole which broke his neck. He was dead right there on the side of the road. His wife arrived on the scene as they loaded his body into the ambulance. Remarkably, his face and head were untouched while his helmet was broken open.
One year after the accident, myself and twelve of my fellow veterans motorcycle group members were in court. The killer was allowed to plead (we had to wait for an interpreter) to "Careless driving resulting in death". A ridiculous charge with a maximum sentence of one year. I gave a victim statement on the loss of a combat veteran, a sheriff's deputy and a good friend. Dana Nichols, district judge of Weld county Colorado, sentenced the killer to 180 days of work release. That is the price of a life in our liberal courts. The killer had failed a drug test for meth while on release but this was deemed non-pertinent. He did not express remorse. Not 'lo scientology, nothing. He was released to come back and serve his sentence the next week. He likely walks free today, but I pray he is on the list for ICE to send him back to whatever rock out he crawled out from under.
If you have read this far, thank you for indulging me. I've debated sharing this here, but the anniversary of Jason's death weighs heavy. Jason was a father of two, a husband, active in helping veterans and a friend to many. His loss was profound. Please Pray for him and all those senselessly killed on our roads.
Issuing CDLs to third world garbage has a real cost.
Thank you for sharing. It's evident that you not just cared for the man, you loved him.
