If she is going to be replaced with an individual that will do nothing but provide false information to support the current administration, then the agency/office needs to be shut down. Factual data, good or bad, should always be provided and not a bunch of political propaganda no matter who is in office.

While I agree that politicians of all backgrounds make a living on contorting reality to their accomplishments, this dismissal is only going to further undermine integrity in what are pretty cut and dried SQL queries. After firing a non-partisan official for simply doing their job, do you think a replacement is going to be anything but a stooge for the current administration?

Replacing her with a stooge for the Administration was the point. Trump has a narrative he wants believed and anything contrary has to be either quashed or its credibility destroyed. Remember his press secretary's insistence on 'alternate facts' early in his first term? He made claims that were easily shown to be false and were reported as such. That's when he started calling main stream media fake news, because they wouldn't go along with his 'alternate facts'. And his felony convictions were basically about him cooking the books of his business.

Remember the last 6-7 years with Biden when almost the entire world of news and journalism overtly lied and covered up Bidens mental health issues to keep Trump out of office?

Remember when the Democrats staged a coup against Trump during his first term with fake tales of Russian collusion and then later impeached him twice over completely fabricated lies?

Do you remember former Trump admin people boldly claiming after his first term how they sabotaged his agenda from within by lying to him about what was really going on within the inner workings of the government bureaucracy?

Remember when Obamas IRS went specifically after conservative non-profit groups, got called out for it, and then Lois Lerners PC as well as others had catastrophic hardware failure at the exact same time so that data proving their guilt could not be "recovered"?

Do you remember any of that?

Do you think that maybe a Biden appointee who looks like a far left caricature might have an agenda especially after we've lived through the Democrats openly practicing 1984 tactics since 2008?

It's always funny that when something gets done that the democrats want its bipartisan.

When the republicans are trying to get qualified nominees through and the democrats block it, it's "defending democracy" or "resistance".

Democrats play dirty as hell and expect bipartisanship when it's in their interests, but whine anytime the republicans show any backbone.

It's great she's gone. She fudged numbers bigly for the previous administration. Need someone in the position to report accurately as possible. From that comes better policy.

Welker spent a worthless 10 minutes hammering Hassett on this.

Keep in mind Hassett has ate, drank and slept these numbers for 40 years. He says clearly the larger revisions began during COVID with significantly less response rates.

But that has continued and the explanations were not provided. So the BLS commissioner was fired for being unable to provide explanation, context to the numbers (and revisions) month after month. Trump had enough.

Any other insinuation is just typical TDS tabloid fodder / Welker whiny babies who need get back to grooming their cat and not trying to "get Trump" on a message board.

Man, you are sooooo far off in your thinking. She was doing such a horrible job constantly having to revise downward. Do you even know this??? Click on the links that were posted. If you had been keeping up you'd already know. How about bringing some knowledge with your argument.

No. It's not. She was appointed with wide bipartisan support because both parties thought she was a straight shooter who did a good job. Marco Rubio voted for her.

Firing her is partisan. And nobody will be able to trust economic data from this administration again.

Job number adjustments are normal. If you think she's such a partisan hack, why not report bad numbers initially? Why wait until you get more data to "rig" it? If you are honest with yourself, you can see that Trump's rationale is bullcrap and he's really just trying to hide the truth from you - and the truth is he is crashing the economy.

Prove this in the simplest of terms with data.

This. When wild revisions become the norm then they are either cooking the books or they just aren't good at their job. Either way they need to be replaced.

The move has drawn condemnation from the president's party.

I would if he projected we made a big profit one month and then a month later said, nah, we lost money last month.

Perhaps the methodology to get the numbers needs to be fine-tuned or completely overhauled to be more factual. I don't think this is a Republican or Democrat thing. The stats coming out of government agencies have been terri-bad for quite a while. Personally, I don't see anything wrong with the firing. Any private sector stats jockey that put out such poor work would have been sacked a long time ago. If the stats person happened to be politically-motivated to skew the numbers in favor of one side or the other, they should be run out of DC on a rail.

I just had a heated argument with a sip about "Republicans cheating on reporting" for 60 years...

Mathematically, 17,000 new jobs in July makes no sense...hell, it takes 200,000 jobs just to keep up with population growth. And GDP at 3.0%? Inflation at ~2%??? I'd say the witch dropped several categories from the stats measurement. Years ago, part-time employment was not included, but Biden included it, mostly due to inflation, even though many part-time employees were full employment as well...double counting people?.

This sip thought an adjustment for previous 2 months of -100,000 each month is typical...a correction of 80% means the underlying data is bad, really bad...or someone is lying, really bad. 10% is seasonal...maybe 20%, but something that big would be attached to some really, really bad event...like COVID, for instance.

Then he injected Trump was a convict and a liar, and I got intense...

Anyway, I started raising my voice, and my socially adept wife dragged me out...cannot argue with a sip...logic and proportion had fallen from his head.

My understanding is that she cooked the books, making it look like more jobs were created, so that the Fed would keep interest rates at the same level. The idea being that if a lot of jobs are being created, we don't need to lower the interest rate. Then two months later, adjust the jobs created number down, and now it's too late to drop the interest rate. This has been going on since Trump got into office. They finally figured out their scheme and dumped the beeatch.

Thinking out loud here...

This woman, perhaps unwittingly, did Trump and Powell a bit of a favor. Trump has been badgering Powell to drop interest rates. Powell has a fairly compelling reason to drop them now.
