Can we talk about firing a statistician because you don't like their numbers

With the firing of a career economist heading the department of labor statistics, the precedent is now set to dismiss government officials for simply reporting data that runs contrary to the President's agenda. Anyone else not okay with this happening?

Do you really believe this is any different than the past ~200 years? This administration is just open about it.

Yes, I do think it is different, but if a precedent has indeed already been set, are you still okay with it happening? Would you be okay with your CFO being dismissed for reporting truthful numbers to the Street?
The move has drawn condemnation from the president's party.

We laughed for four years when they'd revise the numbers after the fact, without fail, and now that it's been stopped....'not okay with it'.

Revising of numbers when more complete data arrives will continue to be the norm and disaffected partisans who are unhappy when the data does not tell the story they want will continue to whine over baseless allegations. Firing a career bureaucrat for simply doing their job is terrible for our country on many levels.

Ok?

Anyone who misses by 90% in a non recession economy needs to be **** canned. This assertion about corporations not participating in the survey is complete dumbassery.

It's what happens when a disturbing amount of people in this country think that a man baby is fit to be the most powerful person in the world. Anyone who actually did their research on Trump knew that he's always been like this, even before he got into politics. He's always thought that the world is rigged against him and nothing bad that happens to him could possibly be a consequence of his actions.

It really must be a revelation to some that if you are awful at your job you just might be held accountable. The government has ran counter to this common sense ideal for decades.

Two of the worst words in this country. The people and the government shouldn't be beholden to career bureaucrats.

While I agree that politicians of all backgrounds make a living on contorting reality to their accomplishments, this dismissal is only going to further undermine integrity in what are pretty cut and dried SQL queries. After firing a non-partisan official for simply doing their job, do you think a replacement is going to be anything but a stooge for the current administration?

Inaccuracy and incompetence (and apparently incontinence) are all worshipped by the left. No one shall ever dare say someone is not qualified based on these factors.

She was a buffoon who could not supervise simple math. Happened throughout her tenure.

Don't suck at your job and you may keep it.

They aren't cut and dried though. Initial data pulls are, but humans take it from there. They always adjust to reflect the intended message. Usually that is in alignment with the admin.

That is literally why statisticians are fired. And the reason Trump doesn't like their numbers is because it doesn't seem to match reality.

I think it's funny how either side can justify actions that are inconsistent with our founding principles. Well, maybe funny isn't the right word…I think disgusting and sheeplike is more appropriate.

Was she good at her job?
It takes a special kind of brainwashed useful idiot to politically defend government fraud, waste, and abuse.

She should have been fired a long time ago. When you keep misleading everyone with bad numbers and later have to have large revisions to true them up, she deserves to be fired. A lot of major decisions are based on the monthly reporting and they should be more accurate. If that's not possible, then delay the report until you can get good statistics. She was justly fired with her poor performance.

As someone that did "pretty cut and dried SQL queries" for a living for 20 yrs (plus a **** ton more IT) , I'd have been **** canned well before I hit 20 yrs if I sucked as bad as the BLS does, especially the last 4 yrs. They've been partisan for decades, at least.

You simply have no idea WTF you're even talking about here.

How do you know it was solely because Trump didn't like the numbers? What if he didn't like the numbers because they were ****ed up and wrong, just like they were for the last 4 years?

She was a Biden political appointee, not a non-partisan civil servant. Big difference. Political appointees are typically fired and replaced when there is a change in parties. Most of Trumps political appointees were fired and replaced when Biden took office. Only thing that was unique about thia was the timing and public nature of it.

This is exactly what should have happened. Our federal, state, and local governments have been filled with lazy, corrupt, activists. President Trump's administration is doing a fantastic job weeding out this garbage.

Would Trump be justified in firing her if what he says is true and the data is being rigged? Trump has been vindicated enough, when he says stuff like it's easy to believe. Should I dismiss out of hand that some bureaucrats are trying on purpose to sabotage his presidency? As soon as I saw the lady's picture it seemed even more plausible.

I agree it's not a good look, but this is where I'm at. We know they were faking numbers to make Biden and Kamala look good, and obviously they are doing the opposite against Trump. Sounds like a much needed change
