The networks don't take donations tho. I think they will continue to get donations ( not tax deductible donations tho) and that's fine with me. Maybe they start to take on advertisers as well I dunno. It seems like advertisers could make up the gap that comes from the feds
Now if it's only in the 15% range . At the end of the day I don't care if they cease to exist or not …. Might even prefer that they do disappear.

The GOP wants to be liked by Washington insiders more than it wants to do whats good for the US.

94.4% of the GOP voted FOR this bill.

Don't condemn the whole group based on the actions of less than 6%...

And it was the usual suspects...

Who are likely the most conversative congress critters that would get elected to represent their state. Running a more MAGA candidate in those states would likely result in a D being elected there...

Over $20k for me. Sounds like you are not paying very much net federal income tax.

I pay close to $20K total in federal income tax. I was talking about the savings I'll see from the "big beautiful bill"

You're more than welcome to go back to your 2015 tax levels

Why? People like me are already paying for everything. Time for the rest of the electorate to step up.

I cannot speak much to PBS bias, but NPR is the elephant in the room.

there is literally zero actual real justification to have GOVERNMENT TAXPAYER MONEY being spent on media shows.

if there is a value to the media show- the private sector will support it!

Our country is broke. These organizations could easily fund themselves and are liberal propaganda 24-7.

And yet a couple idiot Republican senators still vote for that spending? So dumb and out of touch.

And yet the very same senate passed a bill that makes this country even more broke. But I'll save $400 on my tax bill so that is neat.

You don't make very much if this bill is only gonna save you $400.

I suppose PBS will have to be held afloat by Viewers Like Me.

Good.

There are dozens of educational and news channels now.

This isn't the 1970's anymore when virtually no one had cable and there were only the three big networks.

Do people still watch sesame street? I never got the appeal of some 1960's puppet show.

NPR is like Planned Parenthood (in a way). If NPR would change their obvious bias in the news casts and cancel some of their far left programing, then they could keep their funding.

But NPR like PP would never give up their big "brand" sources.

PBS could be funded by Seaseme Street alone

Imagine what Netflix, Prime, Hulu, or Disney+ would pay to have that brand.

Actually, Warner Media/HBO Max acquired the production rights to Sesame Street in 2015 and had an exclusivity agreement for new episodes for nine months, with the episodes then going to other free networks (PBS). However, the agreement was not renewed in late 2024 as it was "not core to their strategy". There is so much other programing marketed towards kids today that Sesame Street has a hard time standing out in the marketplace, and the episodes have really become watered down compared to what they used to be (only 30 minutes, "street" scenes removed, etc.)

I haven't actually seen the program in a very long time, so I was unaware of the format changes, but I think the brand still has some market punch. As I mentioned in the other post, the real money for SS is in the merchandising and I think there is still a lot of value there for someone to capitalize on if managed properly.

Warner/HBO doesn't sound at all like the right service for Seasame Street. They need a service with a broader base and better accessibility to mobile devices. Sadly, I see more parents these days plopping their kids down with a phone or pad than sitting them in front of a TV.

Why are tax dollars going to fund a media entity that competes directly with other media entities? Perhaps fifty years ago it served the public good, but not today.

If PBS and NPR are so great, by all means let the people who use it pay for it.

They forgot to include the Ad Council to the bill.

If the 17th Amendment was repealed today, I believe it would ad 2-4 R senators to congress.

This "but what about rural America" argument to save PBS and NPR cracks me up. The first time I saw PBS was when I went to an ag industry convention in Indianapolis with my parents when I was in junior high. It was part of the hotel's channel lineup.

To us farm kids, those PBS shows were something the city kids got to watch.

I have a problem with the fact that it's probably going to be spent somewhere else and they'll claim it isn't 'new spending'.

They never cared about rural America. If they did they wouldn't have hired so many people on eats and west coast.

It doesn't serve over half of Americans. I always laugh at the outrage over public dollars going to private schools/christian schools yet they want public funded media pushing their worldview into others.
