About a decade ago, I took my family to Knott's to show them one of the parks I went to as a kid who grew up many years in SoCal.

We were done around 6pm and started to leave. You could literally see the park transform with all the other families leaving and nothing but 15-30 year old guys who looked ready to start *****

IF's lawn crew has always been IF. Just get a Bad Boy cero turn. Put on/in sun screen and ear buds. Look forward to that COLD beer as you use the blower to clean things up. It lowers BP and you can wear your cut off Wranglers that your wife never allows.

My yard isn't big enough for one of those. I pay someone else to mow my yard because I don't want to. I had my own mowing business in high school so I've done my time.

That is glorious.

Bro is northbound on The 110, crossing under The 105 - about 7 miles south of DTLA.
Fun fact, that's where the bus jump was set in the Sandra Bullock + Keanu Reeves movie - "Speed".

I think the illegals are a factor but:
  • A lot of people in California don't start work until 9 am
  • A lot of people don't go to work on Monday after a holiday weekend
  • Covid killed off going into the office
While I'm not surprised that there aren't as many people headed into DTLA, I can't believe it's that open. That's crazy.

Seriously though, great news. Rich boomers will hate this as there is no one left to pick cotton from their fields.

I stand to lose too but I feel I should personally take some of the hit if I want a great country for my kids and grandkids.

I seriously doubt that enough illegals have been deported or have decided not to drive to have any significant impact on traffic in a city the size of LA.

Don't get me wrong, it'd be great but, I don't buy it.

It is refreshing to see people notice the numerous problems of mass immigration. My mom and dad immigrated from Taiwan to the United States in 1975 and 1979 respectively. I am for legal immigration, but not the current massive immigration levels. For several reasons, it's time for the US Congress to tame down immigration levels. Massive immigration causes traffic congestion, which would cause the quality of roads to decline faster. Also, the rapid increase has strained America's beleaguered schools, which literally don't have room for all these students. In addition, massive immigration would further tighten the supply of affordable housing for purchase or rent. Furthermore, there would be an increased demand for water, electricity, and other public services. Most importantly, there would be increased competition for jobs. Scaling back legal migration and cracking down on illegal immigration would ensure an improved quality of life for current US citizens.

Really don't understand how the majority has become comfortable with wait times in ER's where you're paying for everybody in front of you, absurd increases in car insurance to pay for when you get t-boned by somebody who can say "no ingles" and just walk away, $1k a month in EBT's, and the RE taxes to pay for the 70% increase in per capita education costs for non-English students.

You will never convince me there was not 100 million illegals here when I see things like this.

Same thing happened to me this past weekend. My lawn guy that usually shows up with at least 2 other Mexicans but usually 3 or 4, showed up alone.. Not sure if it was just because it was a holiday weekend or if it was because the trees didn't need to be trimmed or what...Will see in a month or so if he shows up alone again..

Even though I love having the cheap labor to do the lawn work, a lot of them really do need to get gone. Hopefully the cost of everything; especially, housing will go back down. All these corporations investing in single family homes might slow down too, no more guaranteed rent every month from the government for all the Asylum seekers the government is paying rent for.

Folks went home.

I see it firsthand... PT in CS at HD. I used to see a plethora of hispanic workers come into the store for phone sales... pick up supplies... hanging withh their caucasion bosses.

Today? I see a huge reduction on the number of hispanics running through my store. Huge. I've had a few contractors/handymen complain about the lack of labor.

It's working.

Next month, I'm going back to LA for the first time in 24 months since I left.

I'm going to try my old Home Depots and do a compare / contrast

During the scamdemic, I frequented:
  • Burbank
  • North Hollywood
  • Hollywood
Should be interesting to see what those look like now.

If I'm really feeling lucky, I might even drive out to Home Depot in Pacoima where I rented tools before. That place has been peak ICE

Maybe I'm misunderstanding, but how scale back on "legal migration"? There can be no restriction of legal citizens moving about the country. None, unless you are thinking in terms of internal passports. I am with you on everything else and hope I'm off the beam here, because I don't think I can accept that; for example, as much as I'd like to stop every leftist at the Texas border that sort of thing or anything like it can't be done and us remain the same people. Being conscious of where we cannot go philosophically, we just have to figure it out.

This is also happening in Austin. Before Trump, it was impossible to get a Subway sandwich at lunch. You'd have 16 different work crews in front of you, none knew English, all wanted it toasted (of course) and all paid with cash. Recently it's been smooth sailing.

My mom live in Dallas and in the same house for over 50 years. The neighborhood now is not recognizable from then until now. Almost 100% Hispanic and, my guess, 100% 'undocumented'. Can't even drive down the street with the number of car lining the road. Dude across the street operates an auto repair shop out of his residential garage. That can't be legal. Three new schools within one mile of the house that did not exist before. Same number of houses. It's crazy.

Is this thread real? Is the cartoon white supremacist villain, Stephen Miller really trying this "traffic" angle? Are you guys?

And we have posters saying the traffic and driving issues in big cities is because of A. Just too much illegal immigrant traffic B. Immigrants can't drive and are the cause of our traffic issues.

Shows many of you don't drive in big cities often. Nor does the logic on this argument work, at all...

But hey, continue to scapegoat every issue in our country to the scary foreign man.

You don't necessarily have to reduce the number of drivers significantly. What you need to reduce are flow disruptions that cause turbulence. Those are basically slow or ****ty drivers. Either you deport them or they start driving better because they're afraid of getting pulled over and deported, but either way you limit the disruptions to get better traffic flow.

And fewer beater cars on the road that break down and cause traffic to grind to a halt.
