So they're coming in on visas, not illegally?

Visa's that can be revoked?

You want visa's completely stopped?

It is broken down by visa type - tourist, student, H-1B, etc. I looked at the H-1B numbers for India and China and thought the numbers didn't look like that much, but then I realized it was only for the month of May.

So yes, all these people are getting visas to be here legally. But some, namely the H-1B, may not be in the best long-term interests of this country by providing a cheap labor force that keeps American citizens out of work.

Don't think he's got TDS. He has EMDS (Elon Musk) about H-1B visas. Probably got laid off by a tech company that hired a cheaper overseas person that came here legally.

Post after post after post after post after post about H-1B visas. Many US companies are not having to prove that they require these folks as there are American's that can do the job these guys do.

I'm guessing these are only formally issued visas because I know tens of thousands of Australians come to the USA every year on the ETSA visa waiver program.

And obviously Canada would be in the millions every year.

The B1/B2 - 73,000+ for China is a business visa that's good for 10 years.
The F1 - 14,000+ for China is a student visa

This is only the visas issued in a 1 month period so we could be letting in 8,760,000+ Chinese on business visas at any one time.
It looks like the F1 is good for 5 years so there could be another 4.2M+ Chinese students there.

Colombia has 50,000+ B1/B2 but hardly any students. That could be 6M there.

The numbers for the Dominican Republic seem lower than I would have thought.
Higher than I expected for Guatemala.

90,000+ B1/B2 visas for India
Almost 7,000 students
But... 10,000+ H-1B visas
And almost 10,000 on something called an H4 which I'm not familiar with (looked it up - dependent spouse of an H1-B)
There's another 3,000 on L1/L2 (temporary work transfers)

130,000+ from Mexico on something called BBBCC (Border Crossing Card) (valid for 10 years, can stay up to 30 days at a time)
That could account for more than 15M Mexicans legally in the USA.

Almost 35,000 on H-2A (Temporary Agricultural Workers) (can stay up to 3 years)
And almost 15,000 on H-2B (Temporary Non Agricultural Workers) (can stay up to 3 years)

50,000 a month in temporary workers for 3 years is another 1.8M in legal Mexicans.

So it looks like there is a way to get documents.

Shocking the numbers from South American countries like Argentina, Brazil, and Columbia as well.

So that means if the Government issues H1B visas to the whole world and they move to the US, it makes it okay?

The only people I would let in legally are the best and brightest, and it would be for citizenship only. They must renounce citizenship in their former country. You want to be in this country, you go all in! None of this we are going to work here with allegiance to your former country and sending cash back home.

In 4 years, Biden let in 210,000 actual illegals per month. These H1B visas are round off compared to that.

That number doesn't mean that there are 10,000 new H-1Bs coming from India, FYI. The vast majority of those will be renewals of people who have been in H-1B for a long time. For India specifically (and to a lesser extent, China) permanent residency backlogs mean these people are just renewing for years and years until their spot in the green card line comes up.

The government can only issue 85000 new H-1Bs a year. Any number beyond that is a renewal.

Visas are also a bad way to measure overall numbers of individual foreigners, as well. For example, the U.S. Embassy in Chile only issues an H-1B visa for a year, while the status itself is approved for three years. An H-1B worker from that country would need to apply for a visa 3x during the timeframe of one actual H-1B status approval, if they want to keep traveling internationally, as you cannot return without a visa even if your H-1B status is still valid and unexpired.

Honest question: what is the logic in training foreign workers, only to send them back to their home country after graduation? Wouldn't it be preferable to either: A) have them use their new skills and knowledge in the US; or B) if you simply don't want them here at all, don't let them study here in the first place? I understand they normally pay full premium tuition rates that help defray some of the cost for citizens, but that doesn't really seem to fit neatly into your overall immigration proposal.

If they were really that good, they would go back to their own countries and make them amazing. Obviously we don't see that. Most students are average and some are sub-average. We want the geniuses here if we want to take anyone in. Not average or the sub-averages.

So just pay full tuition and go back. If someone is a genius, they can stay or come back.

Bottomline is I care more about Americans than foreigners. We can let them in if the economy was roaring. It isn't. So cut down on the supply until Americans are hired.

I agree with this. As a prof I taught many international grad students; and as a hiring manager I hired a lot of H1B consultants. They are not generally the cream of the crop compared to Americans, but they are cheap.

Visas are gamed so as to make a mockery of the process and put American IT guys/gals at a real disadvantage.
Worse, the company will hire one as a manager; all they will generally hire is other Indians. The on-shore guys I worked with were all Indian, many of the off-shore were Chinese (or Indian).

I was at a level that meant I didn't have to compete with Visa folks, but it lowered the hiring of qualified Americans substantially at the places I worked and consulted.

So I get Infinity's frustration. I would say "most of us in tech" should be "almost all American tech workers." I'm retired, so don't think there is any way that this opinion is "self-serving".

Indians always give themselves away too easily when posting.

There are about 600,000 Pakistani origin people in the U.S. that includes immigrants as well as naturalized citizens, 2nd and 3rd gens. The gender distribution is roughly even - 51% to 49% male to female. Pakistani-Americans are above average income and above average in education.

This isn't the UK. The Pakistanis that migrate to the US are of a different background.
