I voted for someone to be a tough president. Not a Sunday school teacher.
Are we sure the Sunday school teacher wouldn't be better?
Yes, we are sure.
You obviously weren't alive, or old enough to remember, 1979.
What's amazing to me is how many of my friends (b. 1970) don't remember sitting in the gas lines with their mom (or dad) during the summer of 1979.
That's why I laugh every time somebody complains about $5 gas in Texas, or $7 gas in California.
There's a big difference between high priced gas and no gas at all.
I was only seven, but I remember every night watching the news with the latest hostage updates. I remember Jimmy Carter and the botched "rescue" mission. I remember asking my parents why were Americans there to be taken hostage to begin with? Why didn't we get them out before that happened?
I was seven (almost eight when they were finally released)
I also remember my cousin teaching me the Jimmy Carter version of the Oscar Meyer weiner song:
"Oh, my president has a first name, it's J-I-M-M-Y
My president has a second name, it's C-A-R-T-E-R
Oh I hate to see him every day
And if you ask me while I say....
Because Jimmy Carter has a way of screwing up the USA"
