Germany did an unconditional surrender in 1945 and we have had troops, bases, and free trade there ever since.

Japan gave unconditional surrender in 1945. We wrote their new constitution, and have had bases, troops, and free trade there ever since.

So, Tehran air base for the USAF?

Edited to correct the capitol of Iran.

It means there are no conditions to their surrender.

Why would Iran surrendering result in Israel making us have a base?

As for your question, it means Iran has no say on outlining conditions for an agreement in the future of its nuclear energy program.

This does not make sense. Why would we need surrender or approval from Iran for for a base in Israel?

What is the deal with all the hyperbolics over this? There is a LOT of room between a ground war and occupation and air strikes and capability reduction that forces submission to demands to eliminate the nuclear program and allow proper verification.

Trump likes to talk in hyperbole. He just means they need to give up their nuke program and quit terrorizing Israel.

Seeing as we gave up Bagrahm (like complete fools) and the projection of power into the region from there, a base in Iran PAID FOR by Iran wouldn't be a bad deal.

This. Why is this so difficult for some to understand? You can bet the farm that Iran's neighbors are gleeful that Iran is getting it's clock cleaned, not openly gleeful, but back-channel gleeful.

I think a full regime change would be part of any deal. I dont see how we move forward otherwise. The Ayatollah is 86 and would likely just be replaced by another fundamentalist.

Word on the street is the United States is going to install Joel Olsteen as our strongman in the Middle East.

There is zero chance the current regime surrenders unconditionally and hold out dead Enders anarchists and terrorists would not feel bound by the terms of the surrender

So basically it means the new regime which he helped install is ready to cooperate fully

If they do it right they reenact the Japanese surrender. As whoever is left is signing the documents we fly hundreds of aircraft over the ceremony so they can be reminded that they better not FAFO again.

Hold on. Just 50 years ago there was a US presence throughout Iran. Hell, there is a pic on this thread showing a Pan Am hotel in I assume Tehran very prominent.

Unlike Iraq and Afghanistan, we once had a good deal going with Iran.

Biden and Obama were fine bribing them to not attack Israel and letting them warm up to codependency with China and Russia. This is the result of that.

So Trump is going to rewind the mistakes and bring Iran back in to a more western appreciative fold.

My man, look at every country in the region we've gone into in the last 25 years. The regime collapses and becomes a failed state, who knows what happens to the uranium, a bunch of different terrorist groups stake out territory, and we will have to stay there basically forever. We are still bribing Egypt and Jordan and probably Saudi Arabia not to attack Israel (whether through direct cash payments or favorable trade deals). So no, I disagree that Trump is going to turn Iran into some western bastion of freedom and democracy or whatever. But you can believe that if it helps

I have a feeling that the islamist leaders in Iran will never surrender. Khomeini and the bunch would all be executed as war criminals, just like SoDamn Insane, for sponsoring terrorists.

Doesn't help me to see someone so uninformed of history they think western centric thinking will never occur in these countries.

Wait until you hear the Saudis let women drive and you can get alcohol pretty regularly in the UAE.
