Yeah. This'll work. Ever since Vatican 2, the clergy has stuck their noses into things where they don't belong.
This pope should have taken the name 'Francis II'.

The first U.S. bishop appointed by Pope Leo XIV has called for priests, deacons and parish leaders to accompany migrants to court and stand in solidarity with them.
Quote:

Pope Francis previously said in a letter to U.S. bishops that while nations have a right to defend themselves, "the act of deporting people who in many cases have left their own land for reasons of extreme poverty, insecurity, exploitation, persecution or serious deterioration of the environment, damages the dignity of many men and women, and of entire families, and places them in a state of particular vulnerability and defenselessness.

Quote:

U.S. border czar Tom Homan pushed back at the time saying: "He wants to attack us for securing our border. He's got a wall around the Vatican, does he not? So he's got a wall around that protects his people and himself, but we can't have a wall around the United States."

ETA: Okay, my mistake. It was the bishop who called for this, but I'm sure it was done with the pope's blessing.

Thank you, staff, for making the correction.

Pope Leo needs to stick to religion and let the elected government handle government.

And why is it the exclusive responsibility of the United States to take care of all these people?

There's plenty of room in china and Russia. I'm sure they would be welcoming with open arms.

I assume he's calling on them worldwide? How dare France, Germany, the UK, Spain, or anyone else try to prevent someone from living in their countries?

Maybe he should open up St. Peter's to all these migrants. It's pretty spacious. I'm sure they won't rob the place blind.

The first U.S. bishop appointed by Pope Leo XIV has called for priests, deacons and parish leaders to accompany migrants to court and stand in solidarity with them.

Rev. Michael Pham, who was named bishop of San Diego, California, by Pope Leo in May, wrote a letter about the action on Wednesday, along with Rev. Felipe Pulido and Rev. Ramn Bejarano, both appointed by the previous pontiff, Pope Francis.

"On the morning of June 20th, which is International Refugee Day, a group of priests and faith leaders are planning to visit the federal court building to stand in solidarity with migrants who are making their court appearances," they wrote.

This could solve a lot of problems.

Italy is going through a population decline, and needs warm bodies.

We can send a couple million of them to Vatican City, and it's a win both ways…

edit-Rocky said it better.

So why must they travel thru several other countries or even half way around the world before they finally get to the US to escape their situation? Why must we be the repository for these people? This is such a crock.

The good marxists that infest the RCC, their useful clergy, and affiliated "charities" are paid to traffic illegals.

Y'all do understand that calling for local priests and clergy to help out migrants is entirely different from the political policy (which Leo acknowledges is within a countries purview).

But hey man, it is what it is.

As they rake in the $ to traffic children. Sure. The Pope is a dunce. Stick to religion, not social issues please.

After what Trump tweeted yesterday, given enough time, I can easily see many farmers and owners of hotels and meat-packing places join the immigrants, who have been working for them for years, in solidarity in court.

Reminds me of High Plains Drifter

Preacher: "See here, you can't turn all these people out into the night. It is inhuman, brother. Inhuman!"
The Stranger: "I'm not your brother."
Preacher: "We are all brothers in the eyes of God."
The Stranger: "All these people, are they your sisters and brothers?"
Preacher: "They most certainly are."
The Stranger: "...Then you won't mind if they come over and stay at your place, will ya?"

Preacher to the people: "Friends. Don't worry. We shall find haven for you in our own homes . . . It won't cost you one cent more than regular hotel rates."

I can see where Americans think of a Pope's criticism is ho-hum these days. Usually they spout off and nobody cares anymore what they say.

Misleading title to thread. Did you even read the article you linked.? And of course many responding to the thread just go with the thread title and start posting the same old bilge.

Thoughts on Bishop Pham's letter, I have no problem with a priest (or any religious) doing this as part or their ministry but we do have a shortage of priest in this country with most overworked as it is?

So, let me get this straight: we are supposed to be outraged that a bishop is calling on priests to accompany illegals to court for deportation hearings? Not being asked to actually block anything, but just for just being present to show solidarity?

I would think that there are plenty of other things to be outraged about. I wouldn't be surprised if there were some Catholic priests or Catholic charities working to interfere with the US's exercise of its sovereignty, but this isn't an example of that.

LOL, the Catholic church is in large part responsible for the condition of Latin America and it's citizens condition in their home countries when they were teamed up with Spain in colonizing and subjugating the indigenous population starting in the 1,500's. Maybe they need to figure out how to help fix the mess they helped make in Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras and many other Latin American countries starting centuries ago. Expecting America to take in all the poor and desperate from failed countries colonized and educated by Catholic backed European countries isn't our responsibility.
