Finance at my company is paying fresh out of college something like 85k here in Texas

Excuse my ignorance, but what company and what job does someone do with a Finance major?

My degree was supply chain and operations. But basically we manage the expenditures for everyone in the CTO org. Forecasts, budgets, etc

Can confirm. My son graduated last year in Finance and is almost exactly there.

What was crazy for me is I was in the defense contractor field until last year and I was making around that with over 10 years of experience. Same as everyone else on my team. I was not keeping up with inflation at all until I got this new job in a new field.

I get to make $150k for 20 years and am handicapped for the last 40 years of my life? Where do I sign up!
The downside of the trades. Welders and mechanics can make a ton, and they get it almost immediately out of high school without much of a barrier to entry. Your body will pay for those decisions though. Roughnecks and their (lack of) fingers, welders and their eyes, mechanics and their hands. Its painful watching some of our older mechanics in their 60s try to even shake someone's hand.

No doubt that is true. Funny thing is that I have both. I went technical for a while and got my SME and then moved over to management. And yes, management pays better.
