At least one person in the photo appeared to be in handcuffs and being escorted somewhere.
HSI Tampa said some of those arrested had been previously deported and that others had criminal backgrounds. Those arrested were said to be from several countrie: Mexico, Guatemala, Nicaragua, El Salvador, Colombia & Honduras.
What they're saying:
"Over 100 illegal aliens at a Florida job site some previously deported, some with rap sheets. All of them thought no one would notice. Florida noticed" - FDLE in a post on X.
"U.S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement's Homeland Security Investigation served multiple search warrants as part of an ongoing investigation in the Tallahassee region. There is no additional information available at this time" - Department of Homeland Security/ICE.
[/url]

If this was done at every construction site, big and small (houses, etc.), one can only imagine how many we'd be deporting on a daiily basis. Hopefully we'll start seeing stories like this alll throughout cities in Texas soon.

Fine the companies hiring the illegal immigrants. Make an example out of them.

How does this fine process play out?

If the crews have appropriate paperwork (I9, W4, 1099, etc), who gets fined? GC, subcontractor, 2nd tier sub....??

what? You're just okay with companies hiring hordes of illegal immigrants? That's a take I didn't see coming from F16.

Cane every one of them, lock up (though I would prefer execution) of those with a criminal record, then check to see what verification the employer did on these people. If the verification is not satisfactory, deport them as well, they forfeit ownership of their company and any and all assets in the United States. About the third time that happened, the problem would solve itself.

Let's see how this plays out here. I doubt your fellow posters are okay with companies just breaking the law. Your instinct to just attack the lib is funny.

If the company did their due diligence (not just legal obligation) and they were tricked as much as anyone else, that really sucks for them and it may very well put them out of business.

If they turned a blind eye and intentionally did the bare minimum to be compliant, then they get what they deserve.

Don't play the victim card.

I asked how the fine process would work if companies are receiving appropriate government paperwork?

when I see these headlines I silently cheer.

But on the other hand, I would rather them raid DNC fundraiser events and La Raza events.

Even though these guys are illegal, at least they're working.

This is logical, but what would be the determining factors between due diligence and bare minimum to be compliant? Because both are technically compliant right?

More jobs now for FSU football players!! ( Back in the day, Coach would find you construction job so you would stay in shape, plus make some money). Lol. Now, they get paid to workout year round, and defensive linemen are so fat still that they can only go 5-6 plays before needing a rest!. Sorry for derail.

That is why it actually is NOT logical.

If anyone wants to fix the labor shortage and immigration issues, then national ID and a national work permit. Actually enable the processes to follow existing laws regarding guest worker programs and the like.

If folks want to bloviate and NOT solve problems, then go ahead and fine companies out of existence and arrest the folks who actually build America.

Folks who call for this have never owned a business and certainly have never built a ******* birdhouse much less a house, building and most certainly never built a business.

Again we have existing laws and programs to provide for a solution here, but when you solve something it ceases to be a political issue and that is not convenient.

I would think the slap the truck bed and load up some day laborers is a much riskier proposition these days.

Your ditch digging crew may be a gang of Venezuelan rapists and organ harvesters. Or you may get a gaggle of Haitians who will eat your dogs and cats.

Never been a hiring manager, I see.

When I hired people, and had to speak spanish, and their spanish wasn't Spanglish... I had inklings. When they produced paperwork and it passed the i9 process I couldn't go on "inkling", I had to go on "facts" ...as presented.

I, too, would like fines. But having experience with the system, I realize that wouldn't be fruitful.

I'm their fellow poster and I've stated my stance before..

IF the company followed the legal process and the employee "passed" the I-9 check (even if using falsified credentials) then the company didn't break the law. You seemed to skip over that part of their response ....

Unlike you and your buddies, I want the laws enforced. I don't care who breaks it, they should be prosecuted. I've posted multiple times that anyone who lies on the 4473 should be prosecuted to the fullest extent. The last person in the news for that crime was subsequently pardoned by his daddy.. the guy you voted for.

You're right. And nice usage of bloviate!

I misread the post I quoted to mean if a company did their due diligence they would be ok, but if they turned a blind eye, yet were still compliant, they get what they deserve.

I bloviate more below.

What I was asking is, when your foreman, superintendent, hr person, or whoever it is at your company that signs the I-9, has a non-english speaking appears to be Latino and only speaks Spanish person handing them a TX DL with matching pic and SS card with the name William Thomas Smith on both, and they accept it and sign the I-9, which category does it fit into? Due diligence or bare minimum to be compliant? It doesn't really matter, because this is what everyone does.

You're saying a national ID is a solution to this?

They obviously don't.

That's a BS statement meant to distract.

If somebody wants to properly verify if this person is actually who they say they are, it's not that hard

People just simply choose not to do it because they know they're hiring someone illegal and can hide behind the fact that they didn't know

You're saying a national ID is a solution to this?

A national ID can denote citizenship and a right to work. Also helpful for voter ID.-

Makes no sense at this point to have 50+ forms of ID with varying requirements on who can obtain one, and being a US citizen or legal resident is not one of them in several "open-minded" states.

I never understand the libertarian-esque aversion to a secure national ID with stringent requirements and a central verification process.

Again, it would seem to help in my opinion. As BigRobSA has pointed out, the current I-9 process is not robust at all, particularly since you are not required to keep a copy of the information you used to verify their identity and some HR best practices say not to retain, others say to retain but in a secure way given the information.

And I-9 is "good faith" effort. I have pointed out before as well and I think others would agree that it you started asking more questions regarding the validity of certain applicants (brown, Spanish speaking, etc) then the EEOC police will come a calling.

And companies can already be fined for hiring illegals. So I am not sure why people keep clamoring for things that already are in place.

Absolutely false information.

Fake documents are indistinguishable and the systems available to employers are not designed to identify these counterfeits.

Good thing those fines are in place and often are a result of these busts.

Seems like maybe it's not the solution folks think it is.

I didn't delve too far into the article but these workers are most likely a sub of a sub. I'm not sure which firm you guys want to fine, but the responsible party will be the one that issues these worker's paychecks.

When I build, I don't go around asking for documentation for my subcontractors. My general requirements for subcontractors is a Certificate of Liability Insurance and a completed W9.

I don't get the whole 'throw the book at the employer' under the automatic assumption they are complicit. If the illegals are using fake ID the employer should be released from liability as long as their onboarding/verification process was according to state/fed laws. We should be hammering the fake ID generation and shoring that up. As previously stated, employers don't have tools to identify counterfeit docs, and as long as it checks out through background screening, declining to hire because they look Mexican or don't speak good English will set them up for a nice lawsuit.
