And what happens when that passive technology fails or has errors? Everyone has had a phone or some kind of technology lock up (BSOD anyone) in there lives multiple times per year.Tom Fox said:
So according to the article it uses passive sensors as opposed to the familiar ignition interlock.
Ok.
My question is what does the vehicle do if it passively evaluates that the driver has consumed alcohol?
How does it prevent DWI drugs? I would say that at least 20% of my firms new DWI clients now involve drugs instead of alcohol.
Hell, there are year long threads on apple forums about people having an odd error* with their iPhone/iPad and despite multiple attempts to fix both themselves with online advise, and even with Apple tech support, the problem persists.
Tons of threads on people having forced updates from Ford/GM/Stelantis onto their auto/truck touch screen and it locks up for completely fails.
This auto-DUI system is a disaster waiting to happen.
*There errors don't necessarily render the phone non-functional, but just a single option that should do one thing, does another. This will for sure happen with the 'passive DUI sensor' and leave someone who is perfectly sober stuck somewhere with no ability to override the feature and get home.
