The 2021 Infrastructure Disaster Bill included a requirement for all new vehicles to includes "anti-drunk driving technology" by 2026.

While the technology is pretty cool and I would want to voluntarily put it in my kid's car, this is typical Nanny State garbage by the democrats.

What are the chances the Trump administration will choose to simply not enforce it, or it gets repealed while we have a Republican majority? I don't believe traditional breathalyzers will be required and apparently auto companies are looking for "passive detection" methods.

I was in downtown Austin over the weekend and saw the Waymo cars driving around 5th and 6th St all day but never saw a person in one. Are they just driving them around for testing purposes?

I got stuck behind one of those pieces of crap the other day while it was having a malfunction. Just parked itself in the middle of the street and we all got to figure out traffic together.

Ive seen driver attention alarms in newer cars. Id guess some variant of that, tracking eye movement and such

They would have zero effect on their ability to drive.

So use horizontal gaze nystagmus HGN? The problem there is that a subset of the population has naturally occurring nystagmus not related to intoxication.

The best option is for the government to mind their own ****ing business.

I'd say phone detectors would save more lives.

My first thought as well. Don't drink and drive in any other situation but cruising around the pasture with a beer or cocktail in hand shouldn't be an issue

Sales guy I know that drives all over has a Tesla. He puts a bandaid over the camera so he can respond to email while the car drives.
