Its amazing to me that this is from the top rope. Hes confirming that Defense is looking at a FREE flying palace to be used by...well, him. What a bargain for the taxpayer, there couldnt possibly be some potential comflicts of interest there.

If this were a gift from state to state, I'd understand. But if this is going to his library, it sounds like a gift to Trump.

There's also the question of why. Is Qatar suddenly feeling generous towards the one country in the world that could most afford to pay top dollar? No, they want something. But what?

Ever been to a Presidential library? Have you seen the "gifts" given to past Presidents? My understanding is that they are on display because they cannot be accepted as true personal property. You don't think jewelry studded swords and such are "bribes" also?

Yes I have been. George HW Bush's is stock full of stuff from the Middle East, for instance, and was largely built/funded with donations from the ME3. Not real sure what your point is.

If the plane is used by President Trump while in office it will be owned/operated by the USAF. Everything else is semantics/speculation/a distraction right now, from either the Democrats or TDS.

Ah, well, I wish you'd asserted this above. I would agree it will very likely soldier on in USAF service until the 2 new ones are finished/operational.

Of course, if somehow a democrat/communist is elected in 2028, they might throw a fit about it and insist on using the old ones over TDS. Whatever, that's just a guess, of course.

I do think it is likely true they are studying how to legally plan to donate it to his future 501c3 foundation/institute afterward, though, once the -25B's are again operational. Again, this might become a stopgap, but never a real VC-25(B) replacement. Unlike the retired 707 at the Reagan library, this one will have a lot of life left in it still after 2030 or whenever that happens.

Since the "gift", which it is not a gift but it sounds fun for fake news, occurs during his time as POTUS it would be US property.

But this is a transfer / sale to the US Dept of Defense. Any idea it is going to become personal property is a joke, a lie, a misdirection.

But I imagine if it winds up being suitable for use as AF1 then it likely is retained by the USAF for other dignitary travel at the very least.

The faux outrage over this "bribe" is so stupid. The plane would be owned by the American people. Always. How is this a bribe to Trump? It makes no sense.

Is a trade concession to the American people by China a bribe because Trump gets to crow about it? Was the golden dagger and scabbard gifted and accepted by Bush 41 by Kuwait (quelle horreur!) a bribe? You know, the dagger on display at the Bush library and owned by the taxpayer like all presidential gifts.

This story is so wrong on the facts with the most casual of fact checking that anyone outraged by this story has zero critical thinking skills. By definition.

Does anyone think that the US government is simply going to slap a presidential seal stick on decal on the tail and fly into the wild blue yonder without a complete tear down rebuild all the way down to the bare airframe (if it is ever used)?

This story is an indictment of Boeing and government incompetence in not delivering on their AF1 contract. Nothing more. Nothing less.
