The Trump administration says it is going to pay immigrants in the United States illegally $1,000 plus travel costs if they leave voluntarily as it accelerates its mass deportation agenda.

The Department of Homeland Security said Monday that people who use the CBP Home app to announce their "self-deportations" would get the money and be "deprioritized" for detention and removal.

At first, the cynic in me thought 'what a great government hand-out program for criminals to exploit.' But then again, illegals are a much, much greater burden on the system, and this program could be just the motivation they need to chose to leave our country, why not give it a shot.

I'm sure a judge will TRO that shortly.

On what grounds? This seems like a voluntary incentive.

I'm for it. Wonder if they could make giving up citizenship for anchor babies a condition for getting the money? I'd be ok with $5-10k to self deport if giving up citizenship was part of the deal.

On what grounds have they been continually issuing TROs on cases they have no jurisdiction over?

I'm for it, as long as the illegals agree to fingerprints on their way out the door.
It takes a special kind of brainwashed useful idiot to politically defend government fraud, waste, and abuse.

Battered maga syndrome. What would be the argument against this? It seems pretty solid.

None, but it's just a delay tactic. The higher courts will stop it ( the stupid rulings) eventually

Curious how this compares to the normal cost of deporting 1 person.

I'm not MAGA, but don't be so naive.

None of the TROs have been based upon anything solid. This would be par for the course for yet another one.

Can I get deported to Cabo?

Why would illegals take that option? Aren't they already getting a lot more than $1000 from USAID?

Would guess it's 50% or less of the total costs of "normal" deportation.

Except they take the $1,000, self-deport, then come right back and the burden is even greater. Can't rely on a pinky promise that they won't come back. Might work if we notched an ear or microchipped them.

I think the administration has said it's currently $17k per person to detain and then deport.

"The Department of Homeland Security will front the cost of commercial flights and provide a $1,000 stipend to illegal aliens who opt to self-deport from the United States in a move DHS says will save thousands of dollars.

The department says this will be 70% cheaper for American taxpayers, as it currently costs DHS, on average, over $17,000 to arrest, detain, and deport someone. DHS told Fox News that paying for aliens to remove themselves, even with the stipend, is anticipated to cost only around $4,500 on average. "
