I assumed this was the plan in Oct 2023 - and at every strategy meeting for the past 50+ years.

Why did it take so long to announce this?

it has NOT been the strategy since October 2023 as the IDF completely evacuated from the entire Gaza Strip in 2005 during the "Ariel Sharon Disengagement Plan"

so all the Jews who had been living in Gaza were forcibly evacuated and their communities demolished

no Israeli government wanted to go back in and occupy Gaza between 2005-2023.

The house of Saud? I think they see Gaza as a nice little piece of real estate. Salman would likely be more interested in ruling Gaza with an iron fist for a few decades in exchange for some prime beach-front property.
Did you completely miss all the Saudi development effort going on in the Red Sea?

I'm sure you've never been to the Red Sea but I have and strongly recommend it.

The Saudis have the corner on the market on its unspoiled beauty (under the water).

Why in the world would the Saudis want to get mixed up in Gaza? Besides, isn't that where all the lefties are saying that Trump wants Gaza so he can build a resort there.

Also, if you know anything about the Kingdom, MBS is the one running the show, not the 89 y/o King Salman.

I think all of the infrastructure work that MBS has envisioned (which is sci-fi levels of scale and innovation) has been forgotten about on this site. It was talked about quite a bit on here during Trump term 1 but has largely been forgotten about. I've loosely stayed up to date on some of it which has seen totally expected delays and issues considering the scale of what he's wanting to do.

The dude is basically trying to do low level terraforming.

Raze the place, make it look like Nagasaki or Hiroshima after the bombs. Kill anything and everything in Gaza, burn what will burn, blow up that which will not. Destroy every bridge and every mile of rail (assuming they have rail). Put landmines all over it. Use it as a buffer, a no man's land.

I assume the Israeli leaders had a plan for a contingency where they were attacked from an enemy like Hamas in Gaza (like in the planning they did in the movie World War Z).

I assume that plan included what if we respond and we don't defeat them within the first few weeks/months/years.

I assume at some point, an IDF leader said - well, here's the plan if we need to invade Gaza. Frankly, it would be irresponsible as a military leader to NOT have such a plan.

Likewise, I hope the USA has a plan for how we would invade Mexico and even a plan for how would we invade Canada - if we had to.

And that was my point.

They're spending boatloads of money to diversify and they're not your Grandfather's Oldsmobile.
I'm going to a Guns and Roses concert in Riyadh in 3 weeks which would have been unfathomable when I was a kid.

Israel is doing the only smart thing: Occupy Gaza and deport every last Palestinian from Jewish soil as they've proved they don't deserve to live in a modern western democracy and will only destroy more innocent lives if they're allowed to remain

Gaza has the land area roughly equivalent to Lubbock

It's tiny

Surprised Israel didn't just rout them in a week and take over

Remarkable restraint

Much better to simply blockade all inbound resources while providing outbound transport of peoples to other Arab states. I doubt Hamas could produce food for any serious population without imports and hunger is a massive motivator. If you starve the place you'll be left with nothing but zealots and their victims when it comes time to clear it.

See also: Lebanon.

The Paris of the Middle East turned into a civil war hellhole.

Unlike Jordan, Lebanon did not and likely never will fix their Palestinian problem.

Correct. They went to Lebanon on after being forced out of Jordan and ruined that country too.

its probably a very fine line between taking enough control to stop the attacks and taking too much control you are viewed as liable for taking care of all of the people. They want the land and they want the attacks to stop, but they dont want the people.
Solution: Kick all the people out. It's what the Allies did to 15 million Germans around the same time as the "Nakba".

And name the relocation "Operation Königsberg" to drive home the parallel between Germany under the Nazis and Gaza under Hamas.

Nah, just have no sympathy for criminals and terrorists and those that let them live among them. Being soft on the bad guys is why things are where they are.
