Gaza has the land area roughly equivalent to Lubbock

It's tiny

Surprised Israel didn't just rout them in a week and take over

Remarkable restraint

I assumed this was the plan in Oct 2023 - and at every strategy meeting for the past 50+ years.

Why did it take so long to announce this?

its probably a very fine line between taking enough control to stop the attacks and taking too much control you are viewed as liable for taking care of all of the people. They want the land and they want the attacks to stop, but they dont want the people.

Nobody wants the people. Not even the other Arab nations across the border.

yup. You gotta be pretty F'd up for even other arab countries to not want to take you in.

Now if they could somehow get them to Iran, that would probably be the only country who would consider it. But i bet they may be too extreme for Iran's standards. They are the crazy dog Iran trained to keep in the yard and cause problems, but even Iran may not want them inside the house..

Hamas is Sunni. Iran is Shia.

The only people that Iran hates worse than Hamas is likely Israel and the US (for supporting Israel).

Israel never should have given up any of the land that was earned in the various wars when the Muslim countries attacked them. They are paying for those goodwill gestures now.

Because there is great profit for countries in conflict.

Solve the conflict and the money dries up. Industrial Military Complex.

Israel has been really patient, and this is likely the best moment to strike regarding Hamas.

You have:
1) Europe flooded with Muslims.
2) European governments in trouble of major upheaval thanks to all of those Muslim immigrants. Muslims are not popular in Europe at the polls. And, the polls look dicey for the establishment.
3) Someone in the White House that doesn't hate Christians.
4) Hamas doing something really, really stupid in October 2023. You can't just shoot up a concert for peace with machine guns and expect only an eye for an eye. How could Hamas forget what happened to Saddam?

There is likely no better time, politically, than the present for Israel to be aggressive here. Iran doesn't have the bomb yet. And what are Sunnis going to do in retaliation? Trump is likely seen as someone to be respected and feared over there. You do not want to play FAFO with Trump.

Who is going to come to save Hamas? UN? NATO? No, they are worried about nationalism and populism toppling the current plans for a world hegemony. They are focused on dealing with things at home.

The house of Saud? I think they see Gaza as a nice little piece of real estate. Salman would likely be more interested in ruling Gaza with an iron fist for a few decades in exchange for some prime beach-front property.

Hamas is out of friends. The orcs are F'd.

We will see what happens with the rest of the people of Gaza. From where I sit, they have been so radicalized, it is difficult to understand what happens next. But, my prediction is, Hamas is done, done, done.

I keep thinking about medieval war movies where the generals put the fighting men of the people they hate in the vanguard, at the front of the battle to get slaughtered before the rest of the troops are sent in.

In the movies, that never ends well, for what it is worth.

Not to derail, but it kind of got lost in that report. The Houthi missile hitting in the parking lot of Ben Gurion airport is a big deal. A couple of hundred yards and that hits the terminal and no telling how things would have escalated. I don't think it is any coincidence that the callup of reservists for Gaza came after the missile attack.

Only one that really matters. The Kingdom would love to get their hands on Gaza and make workers out of all those people.

this isn't really the plan- the REAL plan is to convince Hamas that the end game is here now

no more dithering

either basically release all the hostages according to the Trump/Witkoff plan by the time Trump leaves Saudi Arabia in 10 days

or face final and total defeat and occupation and sending of civilians to other countries.

my guess:

Hamas will choose that they all die including their women and children-

rather than surrender any more live Jews back to Israel.

Did you completely miss all the Saudi development effort going on in the Red Sea?
https://www.redseaglobal.com/en/

I'm sure you've never been to the Red Sea but I have and strongly recommend it.

The Saudis have the corner on the market on its unspoiled beauty (under the water).

Why in the world would the Saudis want to get mixed up in Gaza? Besides, isn't that where all the lefties are saying that Trump wants Gaza so he can build a resort there.

Also, if you know anything about the Kingdom, MBS is the one running the show, not the 89 y/o King Salman.

Wrong. The Saudis get most of their unskilled labor from Pakistan.

If they did want all these Gazans, they would have already bought them and brought them into the country.

And before I get accused of being too harsh with respect to skills in Gaza, if these folks had skills, they would have already left.

From a political standpoint, the Saudis already have enough problems with extremism and people who want to topple the King, why would they want any more people who are likely going to be a problem for them. Whether that's with extremism, or with a hand out.

It would be like if a bunch of t-sip Studies Professors were losing their jobs in Austin and we tried to bring them to College Station so A&M could get them to work for cheap. It just wouldn't help A&M in any way.

but Gaza is at least 276 square miles of territory with roughly 1.7 million Arabs living there.

how do you "rout" them in a week without just massacring all of them?

No one wants the Palestinians because the last time they were in an Arab state they tried to overthrow the Jordanian government. Jordan had supported a peace attempt between Egypt and Israel. That wasn't to be allowed.

Jordanian/PLO War

Quote:

Promise of Hell
When Egypt's Gamal Abdel Nasser agreed to a cease-fire in the war of attrition and King Hussein supported the move, PFLP leader George Habash promised that "we will turn the Middle East into a hell," while Arafat invoked the battle of Marathon in 490 B.C. and vowed, before a cheering crowd of 25,000 in Amman on July 31, 1970, that "We will liberate our land."

Three times between June 9 and Sept. 1, Hussein escaped assassination attempts, the third time as would-be assassins opened fire on his motorcade while he drove to the airport in Amman to meet his daughter Alia, who was returning from Cairo.

The War
Between Sept. 6 and Sept. 9, Habash's militants hijacked five planes, blew up one and diverted three others to a desert strip in Jordan called Dawson Field, where they blew up the planes on Sept. 12. Rather than receiving the support of King Hussein, the Palestinian hijackers were surrounded by units of the Jordanian military. Even though Arafat worked for the release of the hostages, he also turned his PLO militants loose on the Jordanian monarchy. A bloodbath ensued.

Up to 15,000 Palestinian militants and civilians were killed; swaths of Palestinian towns and refugee camps, where the PLO had amassed weapons, were leveled. The PLO leadership was decimated, and between 50,000-100,000 people were left homeless. Arab regimes criticized Hussein for what they called "overkill."

Before the war, Palestinians had run a state-within-a-state in Jordan, headquartered in Amman. Their militias ruled the streets and imposed brutal and arbitrary discipline with impunity.

King Hussein ended the Palestinians' reign.
agrams
How long do you want to ignore this user?
yeah, that was one of the main reasons that Jordan and Egypt flat out said they will not take any Palestinian refugees.
