I really wish he could make this happen, but I doubt it'd come to fruition. That said, I love the way he just finds a way to poke progs to get them enraged. It'd also be funny if a progressive judge blocked a sitting President from building a state of the art prison to deal with the dregs of society.

Why spend excess money on a difficult to build construction site? Prison technology has developed immensely since Alcatraz. The main reason it was out on the island was because if someone managed to escape they would die trying to swim. Supermax prisons aren't nearly as escapable anymore lol.

So, how much is this vanity project going to cost?

It would have to be torn down. There's no way they could renovate anything. One of the reasons it was closed was due to the condition. They shored it up sufficiently for tourists, but not for 24/7/365 accommodations. It would be way cheaper to start from scratch and the fact is, given the tourism it brings in, there are hundreds, even thousands, of better alternatives.

If you haven't been, its a cool place. However, its almost nothing like the movie, The Rock. There are no tunnels and the morgue, unlike in the movie, is about the size of a large home bedroom. Or, at least, that's how it looked when I walked by it. I think the Clint Eastwood Dirty Harry series movie, The Enforcer, showed it in its actual state better.
