What don't you understand? Seems clear as a bell.

lol. If an American in another country on a visa tried to buy 180,000 rounds of ammo, they'd be arrested and deported.
It ought to be illegal in the US for anyone to purchase that much at one time.

How much should we be allowed to purchase?newbie11 said:

Yep...margaritas all round!nortex97 said:
I don't see the problem. 180,000 rounds of small arms ammunition doesn't seem probative of a crime. They were arrested in Utah, not Canada, right? Will the new Senator Mittens (Curtis) go visit them in jail and cry about their treatment a la Van Hollen?

What about firearms? How many is too many to own?

That's how much/many.
It gets sent to the ATF to assist animal shelters with overcrowding issues.Eliminatus said:

Since when do busboys and landscapers need so much ammo?
Sort of a strange mix. I would think that if this load was headed south of the border it would be mostly 223/5.56 and 7.62. Do the Cartels use a lot of 308 chambered weapons ??Quote:
approximately 150 boxes of .308 ammunition and approximately 30 boxes of 7.62 ammunition
Other way around. You can shoot 7.62 NATO in a rifle chambered for .308, which is a higher pressure round. Just like you can shoot .223 in something chambered for 5.56. Not a great idea to do it the other way around.Mas89 said:
7.62x51 guns shoot .308 also
I was thinking 7.62 x 39 which is generally used in AK/SKS weapons.Mas89 said:
7.62x51 guns shoot .308 also. I use .223/556 for plinking. .308/ 7.62 to kill. 55 grains vs. 150/180 grain bullet.

Still the question is do the Cartels use lots of 308 ? ? I would think they would mostly use 223/5.56 and 7.62x39.

Also, AR10s aren't that hard to come by and if one is familiar with the AR15, it's an easy transition.UTExan said:PCC_80 said:I was thinking 7.62 x 39 which is generally used in AK/SKS weapons.Mas89 said:

Better penetration of vehicles and body armor. Forgot to add that Mexican armed forces had been formerly equipped with H&K G3 rifles; not sure what they carry now.
.308 for scoped snipers, 7.62 for AR-10's.PCC_80 said:Sort of a strange mix. I would think that if this load was headed south of the border it would be mostly 223/5.56 and 7.62. Do the Cartels use a lot of 308 chambered weapons ??Quote:

Guns: also N+1
N = the number you currently own
+1 = the number you need to own

Fortunately most barrels that are chambered for civilian cartridges with military spec equivalents are designed and built for the higher pressure spec and can shoot both safely.
7.62x51? FN rifles and lots of light machine guns shoot that.
