RIP to a great fight and an even greater man.

I always thought he got out of fighting too early….right before the purses started exploding.
I'm also of the opinion he saw what was happening to Ali before any of the rest of us did.
He turned out to be such a good East Tx guy….RIP

No doubt. There's never a shortage of women throwing their reproductive organs at prize fighters.

According to his autobiography, he caught a lot of crap for that. It was the same Olympics that black athletes were protesting in the medal stand.

Another reason to love/respect the man IMO.

Dammit. I just showed his movie to my wife the other day. She's born and raised HTown. But for whatever reason, a ton of Houstonians don't really know about him.

In the end, he was a flawed man that found the faith. God bless him.

My Brother '74, was the ghost writer on his biography, God in My Corner. Met with George several times and said he was a great guy.

I got to meet and photograph him about 15 years ago. Incredibly kind and funny.

He said something along the lines of: "I might be the most important boxer of all time. There's no Rope-A-Dope without a dope!"

Love the mans grill. RIP

They called Hulk Hogan first and he wasn't home, so they called their second choice, George Foreman, and gave him the brand deal.

Just remember that Westchester spawned Stratford.

Memorial owned them all! Go Mustangs!

When I was in high school they were considered the snob school. I think there was a get your Guccis in gear bumper sticker or something.

Stratford was the most modern school though. Kinda looked like a prison from the outside, but it had open classrooms inside for the most part. Three walls with no doors.

6-7 years ago - I flew from Houston to Frankfurt as a layover heading to Oktoberfest. I see George getting off the flight. At baggage claim he had to go sit down, and some handlers were getting his bags for him - he was seated on the way out of the area. So as we passed him, I said "Mr. Foreman - thank you for getting us through college." He put that big smile on his face - and said "Thank you for telling me that."

RIP George

That was a nice thing to say.

I can't get over that he was just 76.
I would have thought that he was in his mid 80's based on the marketing campaign for the grills in the late 90's.

I agree. I'm usually surprised by how old celebrities are. Surprised when they are younger than I expected.
