I am not aware of too many regs that work against us in my line of work, but I'm curious what could be whacked that would make us more competitive and prosperous. I know there's tons relating to the auto industry/polution/climate change BS and have wondered how much less expensive an $80K vehicle would be if some rules would go away.

Anyways, list 5-10 in brief that you're confident would make a huge difference in our daily lives and GDP.

Dodd Frank reporting effing sucks.

But here's the problem, because of those reporting rules, lots of people are employed to comply. There's a downside to cutting it. Like if you simplify the tax code, lots of tax lawyers and accountant become obsolete. They can do something more productive in an ideal world. I want to know net gain per regulation but doubt that analysis is done

Having to put DEF in diesel trucks. DEF or diesel exhaust fluid is just urea fertilizer and water.

Partnership anti abuse rules (and some other anti abuse rules), various GILTI and FTC regs, other TCJA related regs that delegated legislative authority to Treasury/IRS. Maybe some of the worst new regs and other rulemaking from ATF.

Not sure this counts, but I'd also like to see the internal directives of APMA around transfer pricing get rescinded so we can actually get APAs done timely.

Get rid of the NFA and the ATF.

If I want to put a muffler on the end of my firearm as the gubmint requires I do for my truck, I should be able to walk into a gun shop, pick the one I want, pay the man his moneys, and walk out with it.

If I want a rifle with a 12 inch barrel to defend my house, I should be able to walk into a gun shop, pick the one I want, pay the man his moneys, and walk out with it.

If I want to burn a lot of ammo and hit more air than target, I should be able to walk into a gun shop, pick the full auto I want, pay the man his moneys, and walk out with it.

F*** the politicians and SC justices that want to put their own myopic interpretation of the Constitution and usurp our God-given rights while they rely on the protection of folk armed with the weapons they don't think we the people should be allowed to have without bribeing them with the cost of a tax stamp.

I agree with the gripes above for the most part that I can understand (Holy acronyms, batman), but what I was really looking for circles back to the tariffs thread. I should have been more clear.

What regulations can Trump roll-back or cancel that will help turn around our economy? Seems manufacturing would be hugely impacted by many things, and OSHA overreach might be one. The Dem bureaucrats went into warp speed under FJB, attempting to get all kinds of stuff on the books.

BigRob railed on cutting regs rather than placing tariffs and I was just wondering from folks in their various fields, what is out there that's holding us back. Carry on.

CAFE Regs

25 Year import ban on foreign vehicles.
These two combined are painful. With CAFE standards now set by incremental increases over time, there are vehicles people want that can no longer be made legally in the US. With the 25 year ban on imports, we can't even get them from overseas.

For those wondering, if a vehicle was manufactured overseas, it must meet US safety requirements at the time of manufacture to be eligible for import. That requirement expires after 25 years. So, excellent vehicles, that exceed CAFE requirements but don't meet safety standards, are banned for 25 years. The prime example of this is minitrucks, which are highly coveted, but you can only get 25 year old models.

Keep in mind, some of the safety standards are excessive or unnecessary for these vehicles, thus were not implemented.

H-1B visas and all the other visa scams that hurt job opportunities for American workers.

Anything related to the bogus asylum seeking claims where you get to remain in the USA.

I would also like to get rid of two already mentioned:
CAFE standards
Vehicle import restrictions

If I want to import a Nissan Skyline, I should be able to buy one in Japan and bring it over

All of the energy and water efficiency regs that make it so your toilet won't flush completely if you wipe more than once, dishwashers don't get dishes clean (even though they take more than twice as long as the one my parents had when I was a kid), and you can't have cheap, reliable incandescent light bulbs.

Whatever reg it is that led to the Rube Goldberg travesties that pass for gas can spouts these days.

Really, what is actually needed is to take away the unelected agencies' ability to make regulations on their own hook.

If Congress thinks a thing needs to be regulated, they need to write it into a bill and pass it into law. The executive branch shouldn't be setting, for example, fuel economy and emissions standards for cars.

Make the legislative branch legislate, and the executive execute.

Allow simple vehicles without all the electronics, the left wanted that all in them so you could pay to hve all that unnecessary crap fixed .. they want you to have high repair bills or buy expensive warranties

Most of the regulations having to do with endangered species.

We should protect manatees, bald eagles and ocelots.

We should not be protecting snail darters, braken bat cave meshweavers, or Navasota ladies'-tresses as a way to weaponize the government to fight investment.

The car was developed by a private entity and is an example of improved economic efficiency.

Tax lawyers and accounts were developed from governmental regulation and are examples of reduced economic efficiency.

This was partially addressed by the EPA last night in a bunch of rollbacks. However, It isnt going to really matter to a lot of coal plants that are slated to close by 2030 anyways.
