Personally, huge fan of James Ho. The man has been very impressive every time I've seen him speak and is a true constitutionalist. He is only 51, so a lot of years to fill a seat too.

James C. Ho is a Circuit Judge on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. Before taking the bench on January 4, 2018, he was a partner and co-chair of the national Appellate and Constitutional Law practice group of Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP.

As an appellate litigator for over a decade, including three years as the Solicitor General of Texas, Judge Ho presented 50 oral arguments in federal and state courts nationwide. He won numerous appeals, including three merits cases at the U.S. Supreme Court. He was routinely ranked among the nation's leading lawyers by Benchmark, Chambers, Law360, The Legal 500, and The National Law Journal, among other publications. His work has been cited favorably by courts at every level of both the federal and state judiciaries. He won a Best Brief Award from the National Association of Attorneys General for every year that he served as solicitor general, and he is the only state solicitor general in history to be invited by the U.S. Supreme Court to express the views of a state.

Judge Ho has served in all three branches of the federal government. On the Senate Judiciary Committee, he served as chief counsel of the Subcommittees on the Constitution and Immigration under Senator John Cornyn. At the Justice Department, he served as Special Assistant to the Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights and an attorney-advisor at the Office of Legal Counsel. He clerked for Judge Jerry E. Smith of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit and Justice Clarence Thomas of the U.S. Supreme Court.

His record of public service also includes appointments as vice chair of the Federal Judicial Evaluation Committee in Texas and co-chair of the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association Judiciary Committee, and as a member of the U.S. Magistrate Judge Merit Selection Panel for the Northern District of Texas, the U.S. delegation to the United Nations Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, and the Continuity of Government Commission.

In addition, Judge Ho has served as an Adjunct Professor of Law at the University of Texas School of Law, where he taught seminars on U.S. Supreme Court Litigation and Religious Liberty. He has authored numerous articles in respected law reviews nationwide, including an annual feature on exemplary judicial writing for The Green Bag Almanac & Reader. He previously served as senior editor of The Green Bag and as co-editor of Pub. L. Misc.

Judge Ho graduated from Stanford University with honors and a B.A. in Public Policy in 1995, and the University of Chicago Law School with high honors in 1999. Before law school, he was a legislative aide to California State Senator Quentin Kopp. He and his wife Allyson live in Dallas, Texas, with their twin daughter and son.

On November 6 I posted that the first thing Trump should do was call Clarence Thomas

and ask him to resign after this next SCOTUS session

Ron DeSantis for SCOTUS

It might sound superficial but anyone who Trump nominates needs to be in above average shape for their age/demographic, and based on a quick Google image search it appears that Judge Ho does not meet that requirement.

I don't love putting politicians on the court. I think it sets a precedent. Also they're doing good work in the senate and in Florida. Go get the most conservative judge and push them through.

Don Willett. Ho gets a little too far over his skis sometimes. Willett is more in the Gorsuch mold of "this is what the constitution says, and I don't care if you don't like that."

DeSantis is an amazing Governor, but absolutely not qualified to be a SC Justice.

If it's any sitting Senator, it should be Mike Lee.

Think Trump probably has talked to Alito and Thomas about it. Both will retire if they want to continue what they believe in. And can rest easy in retirement, knowing some idiot didn't take you place.

Trump needs to pick two very conservative people, not mushy ones like Barrett who is becoming Roberts more and more

If we are really lucky Sotemeyer will die

If those 3 were to happen, Trump will have appointed 6 justices, a record that will never be broken probably

And if JD wins, which if the economy turns around, it is a guarantee he wins. When he wins, he can replace Roberts.

The other two libtards have some time, Jackson has at least 24 more years, Kagan at least 14. I am calculating to the 78th year in this world, so it could be a lot longer than that.

Biden chose wisely, Dems have a guaranteed idiot on the stand for at least 20 years

That's fair if we are going by pure qualifications.

I mean Ketanji Brown Jackson wasn't qualified to flip my burger, but here we are.

Just as long as it is no one from the DC Circuit Court of Appeals. Too many already on the Court from there, first off. Secondly, the current judges there stink on ice.

If a judge is good and follows the constitution, I probably don't know who he/she is because they aren't out looking for publicity or making controversial, "newsworthy" decisions.

One could argue that present SCOTUS is full of politicians.

Also seem to recall that a former POTUS went to SCOTUS.

My recommendation: Anyone from Harvard or Yale Law is an automatic disqualification.

I would also love based Mike Lee.

What are your qualifications? Needs to be a (constitutional) lawyer, know and understand the constitution, love America and not be corrupt, in my book. Also wouldn't mind someone with a chip on their shoulder who was wronged by our government.

Every SCOTUS judge/candidate is a politician. You don't get the gig without working hard behind the scenes.

Thanks.

Scanning WIki, most modern SCOTUS justices have done nothing but law.

Sandra Day O'Conner was the most recent one I could find who was in politics, as a member of the Arizona legislature.

Before that was Lewis Powell, who was on the Richmond, VA, school board.

I agree with this. We need to quit buying into the idea that these schools not only produce better, smarter lawyers initially, but that they retain that their entire career. BOTH ideas are false. Law school, with very limited exception, is law school. Things may change over time, but given the time I went (the same is true for everyone), the profs mostly went to the same set of schools, they taught the same way, and they mostly used the same case books. Not to mention the fact that they move around. One of my deans has subsequently been dean at 2 other schools. Another dean was one in the Northwest and is now one in the midwest.

I've practiced with those that went to Harvard. They were good lawyers but no better than those that went to Baylor, or t.u., or a whole host of other schools.

DeSantis best serves conservatives by transitioning to the Senate, VP, or POTUS. Maybe AG in a Republican administration. He's just to effective in getting things done to have stuck on SCOTUS.

Cruz, IMO, is perfect and a double win for conservatives. He would kill it as a justice and everyone knows he would love the job. It's probably what he is truly destined for. Also, we don't need nor should run him again for Senate. He's just not that appealing to many and is going to end up losing.

Can you imagine the Dems' meltdown? How glorious would it be to see Cruz take Jackson and the wise Latina to the woodshed over constitutional law?
We may not always get what we want. We may not always get what we need. Just so we don't get what we deserve.
