I remember when they served decent food.

Then they cut corners to reduce cost and it showed in the quality of their product.

I never went back.

Can't believe that place was still open. And Rusty should know that when there is a chain on the front doors of a building it's because they didn't pay their rent.

After long John silver, and red lobster bit the dust it is not surprising to see this one go. Burn out happened pretty quick because the quality was not there. They lasted.longer than expected because of 20,000 new students coming to town every year.

Surprised it lasted this long. Something happed to OTB in early 2000s but it was awesome in the late 90s. Ranchilatas were my go to.

More on how things change:

This was the "expensive" Mexican restaurant in town when it opened in 97/98. You'd only go there if your parents were in town to pay.

That's some quality ambulance chasing journalism going on. Hey disgruntled employees, give me a holler instead of trying to find some.

Rusty, be an investigative reporter. FOIA county. Look at public property tax records, etc. You know, journalism 101.

Current trends from surveys show that Mexican and Chinese food restaurants are declining in popularity. The crappy ones will be the first to fold up.

It probably didn't help that Lupe's was 100 yards away with much better food.

If this was a "lockout," the landlord should have posted the statutory notice. Same thing if it was a tax seizure. The chains may just be due to the glass door and not wanting to make it easy if someone is willing to break things to get in.

Last time I went there took an hour to get our food, and it was not worth the price or wait.

They were always either understaffed, or the staff were just hanging out, like they didn't want to do any real work.

Sad to see a business close, but surprised it lasted as long as it did.

On The Border has bounced between several private equity groups over its lifetime. Both public and private equity are a great way to scale a concept across the country, but not the best to sustain the original quality over time.

Contrast this with, say, the Pappas family.

Going to On the Border in Texas is the equivalent of going to Red Lobster in a coastal town.

I had the same experience. They were actually pretty good when I first tried them about a decade ago, but it seemed like every year they got a little worse until they became bland and not worth it.

Yes, for them it was tax related.

Long John Silver did not bite the dust. It was demolished and is being rebuilt on the same spot.
