Have no idea what caused my last post to get locked but I feel like I should he able to have an opinion.

Maybe. It is just sad that patients are being treated like this.

And I have to wonder if every poster is required to do the same staff did to me. My handle precedes me.

Oy vey.

Derm, I didn't see your last thread, but did you provide a summary with your link? If you didn't, that's why it was deleted.

ETA: I think we would all like to hear your opinion about it as well.

Fair enough. I have not been here for a while. I did not realize I had to summarize a link. My bad.

My opinion is that "universal" health care is an oxymoron. Having an insurance card means nothing.

It still comes down to care not insurance.

This is what my ER has looked like for months now.
Most care being provided in the hallway or waiting room. 2-3 day waits to be admitted upstairs.

Trying to early retire and ObamaCare is a joke.
No competition in the health care industry anymore.
And why does my health care costs increase based on my income?
Shouldn't it be based on my individual health risks?

So dang frustrating and I am p i s s ed the republicans didn't get rid of it.

Come on Trump get rid of it!!!

The article talks about hospitals being overcrowded. Expanding physical capacity in the NHS system is difficult because the government is involved. In the United States, healthcare organizations try to expand based on projected demand. There are still situations, particularly in the winter, that ER patients are treated in the hallways and some people have to wait extended periods of time to get access to a hospital room. In the UK it seems to be much worse.

Wait until they have to increase defense spending.

UK is gone anyway, so really no cares to give. They will soon be a theocracy.

Play around with this Wait Time tool for Nova Scotia:

https://waittimes.novascotia.ca/

Ever herniated a disc in your back? They only do back surgery in the provincial capital so in addition to a 5 hour drive for some patients you may need to buy a new calendar before scheduling your trip:

Curious about your hospital. What's the census like and number of beds? Housekeeping turnaround time on beds? Good bed control? It's been a while since I ran inpatient registration; my hospital was a public charity facility with glacially slow housekeeping, high Medicaid service area, and frequent bed demands from pushy state officials. I got out before Obamacare, thankfully.

It's never been a good idea. This is best evidenced by that fact the left pushes for it.

Yeah libs have been holding the NHS on a pedestal for decades. One of the idyllic cornerstones of a social democratic paradise

Hell, they even wheeled actors out in hospital beds during the opening ceremony of the London Olympics.to showcase it to the world

Socialized systems work best when they first start out. The first decade or two they may even seem like a reasonable alternative. But they freeze markets in time. They answer the needs of the moment they were created, and the incentives of government systems keep driving up inefficiencies (costs) while driving down quality of service and eliminating the drive for innovation and change in the market to meet the current needs of it's customers.

The insurance model we have is only slightly better as it is just privatized socialization. It's a weird mix of incentives that eliminates efficiency to the customer (prices)

Level II trauma center.
42 bed ER - now up to 70 with hallway and chair "beds". We're using all letters of the alphabet now too.
280 bed hospital.
Nurses clean many of their own rooms, especially at night.

We have a provider in triage and in a "vertical" pod. Some patients receive all the care they're going to get from the waiting room.

Lots of hard working people. Love the place I work, but this isn't sustainable. It's not the ER's fault either.

We asked the system about building and expansion and the response was, "everyone is requesting that right now."

To solve the problem.

1. Restrict unnecessary lawsuits.
2. Limit the influence of the AMA
3. Competition. Bring in qualified vetted doctors from outside of the U.S.
4. Stop the "contract" doctors working for hospitals and clinics (one bill and not a dozen for a hospital visit).
5. Open insurance practices (one price for everyone).

Some of these suggestions are pipe dreams (not workable) and others are monkey wrenches in the cash machine.

Doc, I'm 100% certain you know my views on this.

This was guaranteed to happen, as it has happened in every single country in the world that has socialized medicine, or some version of socialized medicine.

First of all, the public would have to be made aware, and secondly, it's only going to get worse. As usual, the usual suspects will scream and cry and our politicians will do the only thing they know, which is to take over more businesses in the healthcare field, to achieve total socialized medicine by buying the insurance companies, all hospitals, doctors, nurses, and emergency operations.

No, it won't fix anything. On the contrary, it will only make medical service much worse and expenses much higher. Folks screamed about this when Obama initialized his system in 2010, but it SOUNDED SO GOOD!

Yikes. Your ER capacity has nearly doubled and you're stuck with the same number of inpatient beds? Unsustainable is a very diplomatic way of putting it.

That's just wrong on every level, Tanya. I wish you didn't have to deal with that on top of what you're going through.

Americans, at least the employed with health insurance, deserve better, period.

It's only going to get worse. I work in a large hospital system. The number of people getting sicker and needing hospital care is only going up. It's been made clear to us that there are no intentions to expand capacity anytime soon.
