Liberal (communist) ideas sound amazing. Who wouldn't want a utopia where everyone experienced all their needs met, all their opportunities shared equally, you never had to make trade offs, you could count on your fellow man to work as hard for you as they do for themselves, etc…
Where it falls apart completely is that it doesn't account for self interest in a realistic way, it overestimates the competency of centralized resource planning to incorporate all information to make optimal decisions, it incorrectly assumes productivity can be monitored and allocated without violence by a government, and a list of other shortcomings.
It also plainly ignores the reality of empirical evidence. Explaining why it always fails, and that failure results in horrific violence and economic collapse is great, but it's not entirely necessary. What is obvious to anyone is that it always does exactly that, regardless of why. It always fails. It always results in violence and murder on a mass scale.
We are obviously over generalizing, but yes - people overly swayed by emotions and feelings tend to fall for leftist idealism and ignore the hard evidence
