Seems like a no brainer to shut down USPS and outsource to the private sector (UPS, FedEx, DHL) who will do the job far more efficiently.
Not sure how they (UPS, FedEx, DHL) would handle mail and package delivery to rural communities. It my understanding that they they (UPS, FedEx, DHL) contract with the USPS for the last leg of delivery since the USPS rates are regulated below any profit margins.
Needless to say between wasteful management the postal system has become a gigantic problem.
Among the latter, under pretence of governing they have divided their nations into two classes, wolves and sheep.”

These days my physical mails consists of:

60% business flyers
35% offer letters to refinance my home, cars, etc
5% legit mail, about 1 or 2 letters per month

So, yeah, if its a huge money pit, reduce the USPS delivery days.
The USPS needs to get into the Amazon/Walmart/TEMU/etc delivery field a lot more than they are.

That could make them more useful.

We contacted our congressman because it got so bad in our neighborhood. An employee got fired and they kept the key. So the boxes get hit every week or so.

Some of the mail ended up in San Antonio, and we're in Katy.

One neighbor put a camera at one of the boxes and he was sent a cease and desist from the MUD so he had to take it down.

I make sure to check the mail often just in case. I was waiting on a vehicle title so I was checking every day. Apparently they are going to re-key the boxes but its going to take forever.

You can get scans of your mail before it's delivered, to know if anything important disappeared between the post office and your house, and now when it should be on its way.

Dejoy is stepping down. How can you decrease volume and add that many employees?!

I say we fire a bunch of folks and go to 3 day per week delivery. That would require a law and Dems will never approve it since the USPS is workfare for liberals. But, if you reduced employees such that you still did 6 week delivery but you effectively only do 3 day delivery that would work. You service a 1/3 of the routes every other day.

What should Trump do here?

Anyone that's ever been to a post office knows it's employees are lazy pos.

I had some pretty bad service from the USPS during the early days of the pandemic. Shipments would show up at the local sorting center, only to sit there for almost a week.

Since then, it has gotten much better. Say what you want, but I have gotten better service as of late from the Post Office than I have from UPS or FedEx. The online tracking seems more up to date, and shipments have few delays.

That being said, the last few days have not been good. I currently have multiple inbound USPS shipments. Online track has just gone dark. It seems my stuff is just sitting at distribution centers again. Very possible it is weather related.

Funny you mention that --- have been wondering in particular what happened with FedEx --- it used to be notably better than UPS, now they are about the same, and that level itself now lower than UPS was before. Puzzling.

You lost that much money and hired 190K new employees? This is why people want the federal workforce downsized.

A guy I know got hired at USPS. Was looking for a semi retirement job. Applied online. 6 months or so later, gets an email that says he's been accepted and to report to this location in a couple weeks.

The day comes, and they show up at the specified location. The manager there has no idea what is going on but tells them "Oh, you're probably one of the new hires". Manager tells him honestly he has no idea why they were hired or where he should go. Tells them to go home and he'll find out and let him know.

Several weeks go by the manager calls and says there's another post office close by and go ask there. My friend finally found an opening after a couple more weeks. Said it felt like there were 3 managers for every employee.

After a while, he didn't like the shift, so told his manager he was quitting.- the manager suggested that he just stop showing up because it may take years to actually fire him. As far as I know, he's still getting checks.

Wow! And people wonder why conservatives want the federal bureaucracy slashed.

Anytime I order something online from out of state, it goes from origin to Houston, then to Austin (passing right by my address along the way), then to somewhere else in Austin, occasionally with a side trip to Killeen between the Austin stops, before arriving at the post office in my town.

I really wish these places would quit using USPS. Fed Ex and UPS do a much better job.

If you want to mail a letter from Denton to a Denton address, it goes through Ft. Worth.

Perhaps a bit OT, but UPS is just as capable of incompetence as the post office. They once claimed they lost a 6cuft steel wheelbarrow tub replacement I ordered off of ebay. Had to get the seller involved as UPS just ignored any attempt at communication.

My wife had back to back packages lost by USPS about a month ago. Same seller.

We complained and they were able to find both of them. And the explanation of how and why two packages with an identical delivery address could both wind up in different locations, but then be found after we complained was hard to believe.

I still don't know what to think about the affair.

Theft, incompetence, or both?

And the number of times I have used a tracking number to find that my package "was delivered" only for it to actually appear a day or three later is large.

How could so many packages get scanned as delivered to my door yet show up a day or so later? Are they just gaming the system to make it look like they delivered in an acceptable amount of time?
