Yet here you are discussing it.

I used to think about it but then I realized I cared so little about what that person does in their life that it wasn't worth letting it live rent free in my head or disturb my day to the point I feel the need to discuss it on social media. Who cares?

I don't, but I know elderly and immunocompromised people who do.
You say this, but honestly, it was far less. I see young people that fit the leftist look wearing them often, and not folks with a disease.SunrayAg said:

These generic 'masks don't work' statements are misleading.
N95 masks, and to a lesser extent even cloth masks (snug fit and full coverage) work in reducing the number of virus particles released into the air..
Study from last year - May 2024 mask study
If someone wants to wear a mask.. let them. If someone does not want to wear a mask.. let them.
And think nothing of it either way.
The desire for some folks to politicize every single aspect of life is exhausting.
Exactly. Covid just gave them the green light from there on out.aggierogue said:I never saw masks before Covid. Maybe a rare occasion. But let's not act like this was common before 2020.SunrayAg said:

No... It wasn't Joe Bob... it was Joe Biden.ETFan said:
We now live in a world where experts, medical, science, you name it, people who have dedicated years, some decades, to work and perform their specialized function in society are no longer trusted because joe bob on facebook posted a funny meme that pwned a lib. Doing the right thing might make your peers think you bat for the other team! Accepting science and medicine might hurt your ego. Sounds kinda soft to me...
Just nothing matters anymore, we've devolved to the point that "everyone's opinion is equally valid" regardless of truth. That's simply not how reality works. And let me be clear, you're free to speak your opinion, but you're also subject to being completely, deadass, wrong.

I used to laugh at people who wore masks, especially in the car until I had to do it myself.
When I had COVID a few weeks ago, I wore a mask and gloves in the car and inside Kroger because I didn't want to spread it. I used to think people were overreacting, but then I found myself doing the same thing. I needed medication and food, and no one was available to help at the time. I even kept the mask on in the car to prevent spreading it since my wife would be driving it later.
Funny how something seems crazy until you're the one doing it :-)
You were overreacting.
COVID, the weakass virus it is, isn't spread by you driving the car and then your wife. So your gloves were overreactions. Your mask was useless, as has been proven even before COVID.

Would you be okay with me walking around the store, coughing, and touching everything? Are you saying surface transmission isn't a concern? I really didn't want anyone to have what I had at the time -- COVID, flu or whatever.
What I was referring to in this thread were the people who are not sick, going to work or sending their children to school with masks on to prevent them from getting sick.

So, a quick summary:
Early 80s, I would get the flu about every year.
Mid 80s, started the flu shot and no flu. Over the next 40 years, the few times I skipped the shot, I didn't always get the flu maybe 50/50 but when I got the shot, I never got the flu…ever.
Last time I got the flu was in 2013, when I missed my flu shot.
I hate shots, I cringe thinking about one but the flu shot works.
BTW, never got C19 and really have a hard time believing it was real, never worn a mask and took my one and only shot in Oct 2021 after listening to one of our Aggie quacks writing how deadly the Delta strain was, remember that garbage!
Flu shot most definitely works for me.

Your anecdotal "evidence" proves nothing.
I've rarely gotten the flu vaccine. Maybe 5 times. The only time I got the flu I had the vaccine that year.
I despise shots, and I'm deathly allergic to some (including DPT) and that is no exaggeration it nearly killed me.
I refused to get any Covid shots on doctors advice. I got a very very mild case long after the panic over it was gone (maybe early 2022). It basically gave me a sore throat for a day or so.
I don't care if others get their shots (my wife does and now regrets the Covid shots she got). My daughter got the Covid jab multiple times and got Covid bad three times. And most of my family take the flu shot every year.
Anyway. Anecdotal stuff but I see no reason to get them.
Quote:
No one claimed vaccines stop transmission. If they did, they missspoke or were wrong. Vaccines prime immune response so you end up with less viral load when/if you contract the virus. Less load, less likely to spread. Simple. An adjacent goal was to reduce severe illness, especially illness leading to hospitalization.
