Meh, I laughed. I always enjoy Hanks and Kenan. I like to laugh and watch things and not be offended or somehow try to ruin my otherwise good time by reading into things. I know more than a few right wingers that would sit through that and just pout. But…as Ricky Gervais says " You found it offensive? I found it funny. That's why I'm happier than you."

Yall gotta loosen up. Gawdam.
Inferring people are racists is not funny.

You really don't understand why it is irritating?

If Hanks wants to live his life on the low road that's his business. Screw him. Don't be holding him up as some ikon of America.

Every once in a while they say the quiet part out loud. You just know this is who they think are the people who believe in what Trump is doing.

Never seen so many people offended by a show they don't watch / claim they didn't realize was still around.

Not offended, just acknowledging low-IQ low-effort race baiting liberal garbage and hoping they keep pushing it. Please keep calling us racists.
When I was young, we called that "whining"

It's clear you didn't watch. It was funny.

Amazing that no one seems to have been offended by ICE agents chasing Martin Short off the stage.

Inferring people are racists is not funny.
A recurring category on the Black Jeopardy show is "White People", inferring (sic) that black people are racist. How come the left isn't up in arms because they are "inferring" that black people are racists? Because it is comedy and satire.

They make fun of black culture way more than the white contestants on the skit. And the first go round was not that Doug didn't want to shake his hand so much as he thought Kenan was stepping to him (my opinion). This one tried to do the same thing and missed.

Everyone needs to lighten up and watch the old episodes of the skit.

As much as I get tired of the leftist goal tending on SNL, I think their intent was to portray Hanks MAGA character as being timid or afraid of black people because he doesn't know them...as opposed to him simply hating black people.

Now, it's still a mischaracterization. There are so many things they could have done with that to make it funny. The last skit they did after Trump was first elected had a much better tone. It was more unifying and showed that we had a lot more in common with each other than disagreeing over who to vote for. It was disarming. This one does the opposite.

This whole Hollywood/media narrative that anyone not left of center is an old white male who never interacts with people of different backgrounds is one of the most pathetic things I've ever seen. It's simply not true at all. But it's all they have to criticize the other side with, because the Democrat policy positions are so bad that nobody wants to defend them.

Also see the recent SNL episode with the 'Hamilton' opening where the Trump character goes on and on about him being good only for white males. It's just a lazy narrative, but they clearly can't think of anything better.

That's fine...this is a political discussion forum. We can talk about stupid sh** like failing liberal shows that are a shell of their former selves trying desperately to paint the opposition as stupid/racist etc.

IDGAF what any limp wristed liberal male feminist thinks about my criticisms. Part of what made the scared-to-shake-a-black-man's-hand bit so stupid is the horrible acting job by Tom Hanks...that was pathetic. It's not that it is just a ridiculous and ignorant premise to anyone who is not in a liberal bubble 24/7, it was just super awkward and fell flat. Only the left finds this funny...and a shrinking subset of the left at that. Lot's of low-T fruity soyboys were probably giddy with laughter. The rest of us just felt awkward.

Doesn't matter to me....the premise so ridiculously unrealistic and out-of-touch, it doesn't work.

Southern MAGA people are much more likely to be more entrenched and elbow-to-elbow with working class black and hispanic people than white liberals. And much more likely to be hospitable to blacks out in the real world.

None of us are man...none of us are losing our minds over it...it's just so stupid and out-of-touch that we are hoping they keep it up...keep pushing these ignorant off-the-mark narratives from your coastal elite bubbles...May it never stop.

I agree it's cringe-worthy.

Comedy used to be fearless. Everyone was fair game. It was unpredictable. It was adventurous. There was freedom in being able to mock and question the rule makers.

But today, so much of comedy nourishes fear, instead of mocking fear. It sets rules and boundaries instead of blasting right through them.

I saw the original skit. This wasn't funny. Him getting all shaky at the thought of shaking a black man's hand was just stupid and awkward. Horrible acted. And hyper out-of-touch. No one knows anyone like that. Comedy is supposed to have SOME basis in reality. This could not be more out-of-touch and off the mark.
It fits the theme of the joke perfectly.

Doug being afraid of a black man, whom he shares many, many cultural aspects with, IS funny.

The reality is that most racism is based on ignorance. Doug is scared because he doesn't know better. But he should know better, because he is more like the host of the show than he knows. If Doug would just hang out with more black people, he would be more comfortable with them.

The only thing he knows about black people are what he sees on the TV. The only things that the black contestants and the host know about MAGA is what they see on TV. Don't trust the TV, get to know people that aren't like you.

It's not out of touch. It is actually a very intelligent joke.
Ack - a libslaining! Hey, that does indeed come off as condescending and annoying.

No. I have never understood how some people are so miserable or seem to have a stick up their ass about everything that crosses in front of their eyes.

It's comedy. It's a broad generalization for the sake of it being funny. If you ever had any serious interaction with a real MAGA person...like the political sign in the yard, bumper sticker, 5' flag on the flagpole but nothing else, kind....you would understand the stereotype and get the joke.

It's disturbing that people living on F16 don't understand the stereotype mentality.

I voted for Trump and find it funny. In fact, anyone truly 'offended' by it may want to take a deep dive into their personal feelings about whatever it is that hit the nerve.

Still waiting for a stereotypical Kamala voter skit. But I'll never see it even if they did one because I quit SNL after Sandler et al.
