New Yorkers, would you rather have a corrupt mayor that helps clean up your city by greatly reducing the number of illegals living there, or another corrupt mayor that actively thwarts any attempt to remove illegals? That is your choice.

I don't know all the details, but this does sound bad. I know the Democrats do it, but that doesn't mean Republicans have to as well. There are other ways to fight the fight without bringing yourself down to their level.

The way I understand it is he actually has done some shady stuff. I think Trump used the impending investigation as leverage to get Adams to comply with removing sanctuary city laws and/or just allowing/helping ice do what they need to.

In exchange, the corruption charges were dropped.

I had the same thought. It went a little like this ... A RINO, a Clinton judge clerk and a Bush hire get disbarred ...

Bad guys make plea deals all the time in exchange for helping the government take out bigger fish. Trump's justice department believes the immigration crisis poses a greater threat to Americans than a single corrupt mayor, thus the deal with Adams.

The Democrats are truly getting desperate to try and make this something nefarious.

Its laughable that Dems are now concerned with enforcing the law and they are holding these prosecutors up as bastions of integrity when the Biden DOJ and the State of NY AG and the entire leftist controlled deep state apparatus ran roughshod over Trump and anyone associated with him bending the laws into pretzel to prosecute him. Not to mention allowing millions of illegals into this country unchecked.

Conversely, the corruption investigation and charges only appeared when Adams started questioning Biden and the illegals being admitted to NYC.

First, these three did the honorable thing, which is resigning instead of forcing Trump to have them fired. They think Adams committed the crime and they don't think the charges were for political reasons (charges were raised a year before he began criticizing Biden over immigration. So, they resigned.

Second, the fact that there was no evidence of a political prosecution is not relevant. Trump is free to choose to have his departments drop whatever prosecutions he wants. In fact, it's the very first sentence of Article II of the Constitution: "The executive Power shall be vested in a President of the United States of America." Trump is the President, the power to prosecute is within that executive power, and he is legitimately acting in asserting that power. And if some think that this is a situation where Trump is not "faithfully executing the laws of the United States" they can assert their constitutional power, which is impeachment.

The bottom line is that presidents have the power to have departments apply prosecutorial discretion for political reasons and that presidents do this all the time. He will be attacked politically for this, but on the other hand it's clear that it was done because Adams is helping to enforce immigration policies, so clearly Trump thinks the political fallout is worth it. And he's probably right.

Nope, the corruption investigation of Adams was opened more than a year before he finally began criticizing Biden over immigration.

what is the net difference between a president telling them to drop a case versus him granting a presumptive pardon?

Telling them to drop the case without prejudice allows president to hold the case over the target in case the target gets out of a line. A presumptive pardon could not be later revoked when the target fails to answer how high when told to jump.

Correct on all counts. Trump definitely has the authority to tell the USA to drop prosecution. The USAs are definitely well within their rights (and in fact ethically required) to resign if they are given directions that they believe violate their ethical duty as an attorney.

This.

And DeBlasio's wife openly stole millions while he was Mayor. Where were those SDNY prosecutors then?

Adams will be out of office after 2026 anyway. Adams was on Fox and Friends this morning with Homan. Not exactly the usual friendly territory you would expect Adams to be. So if there was a deal struck, hopefully something good will come of it.

Is the bargain corrupt or was the initial indictment politically motivated? I think the latter. If these folks wanted to convict Adams they had years to do it but waited until he criticized Biden's immigration policy

US Attorney No. 7 resigns for refusing to be part of sparing corrupt liberal NYC mayor (all of that is redundant). Wondering who will be the "fool" or "coward"? May end up having to be Bove himself.

They let titanic corruption in DC slide over and over and go after Adam's on accepting business class airline seat upgrades without really even a quid pro quo specified, because he was a prominent Dem that had the gall to agree that unrestricted illegal immigration was causing real problems.
