Based on the findings of DOGE and stories like that at EPA regarding 20 billion funneled to NGOs, what happens if a very large number of Americans refuse to complete their taxes? Obviously most of us have are wages garnished every month. But what if we don't file?

What if millions of Americans said no. We aren't paying for this crap. What happens? Especially with Republicans in control?

The IRS should not have armed agents. Ever.

Nor should they be able to seize your bank account or garnish wages without your local government's approval.

Hell yes!

Unfortunately, they'd just seize assets, freeze your bank accounts, garnish your pay, etc.

They'd Wesley Snipes your ass.

In the age of digital banking and digital money, the government could very well freeze bank accounts. We saw it happen in Canada a few years ago when truckers protested. They don't have to freeze it for long, just a month would break most people as CC bills, car payments, and mortgage payments are missed.

Illegal or not, they can do it, and banks will comply to avoid the lawfare, just as they did when the feds started to pressure them to de-bank companies doing business with firearms, or in Colorado with companies selling marijuana.

You would never find millions who would join in. In fact, you wouldn't find a million. Or a hundred thousand. Likely could never get ten thousand to go along with the plan.

It would have to be coordinated by big influencers and really catch on. Imagine if 10-50MM working adults just didn't file. What could they do to us? It's probably the only peaceful form of truly revolting I can think of.

If the public banded together and refused to file, there would be massive change in our favor. Govt is powerless to coerce at that scale

I have thought the same thing about not filing and paying the remainder of taxes due. Why should I pay those thieves anymore of my money! Unfortunately, I just don't have the cajones to be the leader of that movement, but I'd follow if a bunch were to get on board!! When need a George Patton to take the lead!

As with any dissenting or revolutionary act: the first to act will suffer greatly. Only if they are willing to sacrifice and numbers take up the cause would there be success, so nobody want to be first.

A primary reason that this will never be successful is that most Americans receive a tax refund.

Last I read, 2/3 of filers get money back. Good luck getting them not to file.

paycheck withholding prevents any meaningful protest. If everyone had to cut a full check on 4/15, you'd see real change in this country

Honestly, I'd rather pay for that than give it the govt. At least there would have been a nice party with some new friends and future clients.

My uncle employed this strategy about 30 years ago. Spent some time in the clink and agreed to a settlement with the IRS and has been off books working cash jobs for the last decade.

Also, YouTube sovereign citizen videos. You're welcome.

Probably the the thing that would hurt them most would be for people to stop sending them money out of their paychecks. The money is due April 15th, right? Why do they get it before? Because they need that constant money stream. NGOs and politicians need their money now.

This is the entire reason that Current Tax Payment Act was enacted and that he concept of withholdings came to be. The FDR admin was afraid that the entire country would refuse to pay taxes on one day. So somebody in his admin had experience in retail (I forget who) and said that customers are willing to pay a lot more money if they do it over time than all at once. Before that people were paying ~1% of their income. After the law that rose to 11%.

Where can we sign up for 11%? But in all seriousness, everyone should pay the total amount on April 15 and see what happens to income taxes.

I am so pissed every March and April that I it takes until mid May before I relax even a little over this theft that occurs every year.

Well apparently thousands of IRS employees don't pay their taxes so why should we?

Quote:

  • More than 5,800 IRS and contractor employees owe nearly $50 million in overdue taxes.

They're idiots. They're getting back their own money they lent to the government interest free... compounded by the 4% they lose when it's not sittting in a bank.

Crack parties are only deductible by Washington, DC mayors and sons of POTUS. So unless poster is named Hunter, Don, Eric or Barron, he is SOL.

You realize that the folks, idiots as you say, just simply do not have the fiscal discipline to put money in a bank account and leave it.

IRS refunds are one of the only savings accounts most Americans are ever successful at maintaining.

I didn't say they were not indeed idiots and that they would spend their savings wisely!

But at least they bought that TV with the refund and put their pit bull puppy on layaway (another form of 'savings').

To the OP, if you want to play FAFO games with the IRS, have fun. My wife's uncle fell for the "income taxes are unlawful ruse" and quit paying for about 5 years or so. It has turned out poorly for him.
