Is there any talk of the Trump admin eliminating or de-funding most climate change research?
Sorry if there is already a thread on this, or if I missed it amongst all the other things that have been done the last few weeks. Also before any one gets upset, I am fine with legitimate atmospheric research, just not that that has the preset goal of "give up everything or we will all die in a furnace". The money needs to taken from this crowd. Thanks in advance for your comments, and don't forget to tip your waitress.

I did some climate change research this week.

Yesterday, it was hot.

Today, I went outside and it felt nice.

The climate definitely changes.

Congress should hold hearings and bring all of the silenced scientific voices in who KNOW it's mostly a hoax, and for sure sow the doubt that it's man made. Quantify the direct everyday costs in different parts of the country (CA and NY looking at you), in such simple terms everyone can understand. You know, do some damn PR which Republicans suck at.

Agreed. At least give the other side the bulk of the funding for a while and allow critical voices to be heard and considered.

Better to call it simply climate research , not climate change research.

There may be some good research to be done with things like CFD and hurricane forecasting now with AI advances.

Hard for me to think of much else? Maybe modeling sun-earth interaction? Urban heat sinks? Ocean currents?

It's going to be even hotter in July.

The atmospheric sciences have been politicized for "other" agendas. If you throw lots of money at a researcher, that is not well paid to begin with, you create an atmosphere of "go along to get along". We saw this with the Tobacco industry that "funded" tons of research in the 50-60s that engineered results that the Tobacco industry wanted. Same thing happened in the 1990-2020s for "climate" research.
